Bank stick up

TWO MEN have been
arrested over a robbery
at an Orihuela
City bank in mid-October,
and locking a bank
teller in the bathroom.
Details of the incident
only emerged this
week, with the robbery
happening on Thursday
October 17th.
A man entered the
unnamed bank branch
and brandished a gun in
front of a male bank employee,
who gave them
12 thousand euros from
the safe, and then he
was locked in the bathroom,
as the robber then
beat a hasty retreat.
The Spanish nationals,
aged 32 and 63, were
detained by the National
Police 11 days later,
with one of them refused
bail by an Orihuela
court.

Vicious duo caught
TWO VIOLENT robbers
have been arrested by
the Guardia Civil, after a
spate of shop hold-ups
on the Orihuela Costa and
Torrevieja.
The men, who are Spanish
and middle-aged, have been
charged with ten offences, including
five counts of robbery
with violence.
Last month saw the duo
strike in four businesses,
namely a chemist, a realestate
agency, a hairdressing
salon, and an electrical
dealership.
The spate of robberies created
real concern amongst
business owners, with the
men brazenly entering the

various premises during
regular shopping hours.
The duo would threaten
sales staff with a knife and demand
any money or valuables
that were on the premises.
The crooks, who wore hoodies,
would also ask for car
keys and the PIN number of
any bank cards.
The Guardia Civil in Pilar
de la Horadada took charge
of the investigation, and using
witness statements and
CCTV footage, they managed
over a few days to pin
down where the men where,
as they were getting ready to
rob another store.
One of them was arrested
close to a shopping area,
but the second man was detained
a few hours later, as
he parked up outside the
Orihuela Costa address that
he was staying at.
It was discovered that he
had been on the run from
a Madrid jail for over five
months, after failing to return,
having been given a
day release pass.
He had been the subject of
over 50 criminal charges, and
once on the run with the help
of his accomplice, the Guardia
discovered they were behind
other crimes further north in
Alicante Province, including
stealing a car in Novelda.
