Following incidents in the Cheshire area, and a theft from a van in the Deeside area last night, <strong>North</strong> <strong>Wales</strong><br />

Police are urging van drivers to review their van security.<br />

Works vans are an increasingly popular target for thieves. But it's not usually the van itself that's stolen - it's<br />

the contents in the back, often expensive po<strong>we</strong>r tools.<br />

It's not always possible to empty the van of tools every night. Instead, here's some advice on how to make<br />

your van and its contents less of a target:<br />

Store tools in secure cabinets or boxes within the van<br />

Add supplementary locks to the existing locks - the more a thief has to do to break in, the more likely<br />

they are to move on to an easier target. There are a wide range available, including deadlocks for the<br />

doors and high security padlocks and hasps for the cargo doors. Alarmed padlocks are also available to<br />

Park so that any vulnerable doors are up against solid objects - this will restrict access and make it harder<br />

for anyone to break in<br />

Thieves know the <strong>we</strong>ak points of various makes of van - research yours so you can take appropriate<br />

measures<br />

Where possible, park in a <strong>we</strong>ll lit area. If you are staying at a hotel with work commitments park nearest to<br />

reception.<br />
