FLOYD MAKES COOLANT FLOW
WITH NEW COOLANT SYSTEM
The benefits of high pressure throughcoolant
are evident and in recent years, it has
become the norm among users of sliding
head turning centres. However, the issue for
machine shops is the complexity and nonproductive
time taken to set-up high
pressure copper coolant pipes. This is time
consuming work often requiring cutting and
bending of the pipes. Not easy in a work
envelope as compact as a sliding head
turning centre. What if you have to change
tools and configurations? The process starts
over. This can all now be a thing of the past
with the new HEB Systemtechnik MiniPlug
from sliding head specialists Floyd
Automatic Tooling.
In the event of a tool change on a sliding
head machine, the operator must change the
tool or insert, and the respective tool holder
has to be detached, often with difficulty,
from the through coolant distribution
system. With the new HEB MiniPlug system,
a high-pressure quick connector system
eliminates time consuming tool changeovers
Tungaloy UK has now expanded its
DoTwistBall profile milling line to include
new insert radii. In addition to the renowned
04 (R4.0) style insert, Tungaloy has now
added the 05 (R5.0) and 06 (R6.0) style inserts
to the standard line. The expanded
DoTwistBall incorporates an innovative
design that allows two different types of
inserts to fit the same shank, each dedicated
to profiling and high feed application.
The insert is constructed in a helically
twisted structure that fits the seat pocket
constructed in a matching helical profile.
This Twist Clamp system helps maximise
insert retention, making DoTwistBall an ideal
tool for stable machining in demanding 3D
and the respective changeover of the high
pressure hoses. The HEB MiniPlug system
helps to reduce machine downtime by
simplifying cutting tool set-ups for each
individual job and tool. Instead of changing
the connection in an overcrowded and
difficult to access work envelope, the HEB
MiniPlug system allows end users to simply
plug-in the high-quality flexible braided
hoses.
Suitable for coolant pressure up to 200bar,
the stainless steel connectors and braided
hoses are robust, flexible and corrosion
resistant – ensuring your coolant hoses will
last for the lifetime of your machine tool and
beyond. The HEB MiniPlug is available with
a coupling and seal plug, manifolds, hose set,
MiniPlug Jacks and adaptors. The manifolds
and plugs are particularly compact to ensure
connection to the smallest of toolholders
whilst eliminating interference with the
cutting tool and subsequent tools in block or
platen tool configurations. Once the HEB
MiniPlug is set-up on your sliding head

profiling and high feed applications.
The MJ radius insert geometry is popular
among manufacturers profiling mould and
die parts. The insert features a large cross
section that has been designed to absorb the
cutting forces, providing higher reliability
and performance over conventional round
inserts. The cutting edge integrates a large
inclination angle to promote smooth chip
evacuation. The addition of the both 05 and
06 styles will further broaden the ability of
the series.
The high-feed HJ geometry insert
promotes highly efficient machining through
30% greater cutting depth and feed rate over
conventional high feed inserts. The
maximum depth of cut for the existing 04
insert is 1.3mm while the new 06 insert is
suitable for cutting at a depth of 2mm per
pass, making the tool perfect for various
operations including shouldering, facing,
slotting, pocketing and helical interpolating.

machine, complicated and time consuming
HPC changeovers can become a thing of the
past. The HEB MiniPlug is available in three
different sizes to suit all modern HPC
adaptors and machine configurations with
the latest HEB MiniPlug 1 being the smallest
of the family with M5 adaptors and plugs.

SICK GOES
FLAT OUT FOR
SUB-MINIATURE
PERFORMANCE
WITH the launch of its G2 Flat family of
photoelectric sensors, SICK has shrunk
outstanding performance into a miniature
format. The ultra-thin sensors are designed
to integrate snugly into small machinery and
conveyors, or for tight fits in robotic arms
and grippers.
Starting at just 3.5mm thick, the SICK G2
Flat family of proximity and through-beam
sensors achieve highly-reliable detection of
objects of almost any size, thanks to the
precision of SICK’s PinPoint visible laser
light spot technology, even for jet-black,
transparent, mirrored or shiny surfaces.
The SICK G2 Flat photoelectric proximity
sensor impresses with unrivalled
background suppression capability to detect
objects down to 0.1mm in size at distances as
small as 8mm. The SICK G2 Flat thoughbeam
sensors present versatile options for
machine integration with no risk of crosstalk,
when the sensors are arranged closely in
arrays.
The G2 Flat proximity sensor achieves
exceptional detection repeatability in
ambient light conditions, thanks to its
background suppression capability without
any significant black/white shift, even where
the background surface is near and made
from similar materials. With a choice of
fixed sensing ranges of 8 mm, 15 mm and 30
mm, the proximity sensors are sufficiently
versatile for machine designers to use in
many applications, therefore offering an
opportunity to streamline their sensor
inventories.
