NEWS NEWS NEWSFUCHS TO BECO2-NEUTRALIN TWO MONTHSLubricants giant FUCHS has signalled itscommitment to climate protection byannouncing it will be completely CO2-neutral as early as next year.FUCHS, which has its UK headquarters inStoke-on-Trent, will be CO2-neutral globallyby January 1 2020 – from energyconsumption in production to consumablesin administration.In order to implement CO2-neutrality injust two months’ time, FUCHS will offset itsCO2 emissions, which have not yet beenavoided so far, with compensation measures.This will be done by the companyinvesting in high-quality climate protectionprojects aimed primarily at promotingrenewable energies.The projects are accredited, approved andmonitored according to internationallyrecognised certification standards such as theGold Standard, as well as by renownedorganisations such as the United Nations(UN).The validation of the project results withregard to the CO2 savings achieved isverified by independent testing bodies suchas TÜV.FUCHS’ commitment to environmentalsustainability has already been seen in theUK in a number of ways.The UK company has been trailblazingwith the launch of its Lube Cube, which givescustomers the option of buying its leadingproducts in a recyclable cardboard box ratherthan a plastic container.The change has resulted in an incrediblesaving of more than 660,000kg of plastic sincethe Lube Cube launched in 2012.Furthermore, more than 2,000 solar panelshave been installed at FUCHS’ base on NewCentury Street in Hanley, Stoke. The panelsnow produce 12 percent of the requiredenergy for the entire plant.Stefan Fuchs, Chairman of the ExecutiveBoard of FUCHS PETROLUB SE, said:“FUCHS’ CO2-neutrality strategy isembedded in our sustainability strategy,which we launched 10 years ago.“In this way, we are taking responsibilityfor global climate protection and making animportant contribution to achieving the goalsof the UN climate protection agreementratified in Paris in 2015.”This agreement aims to limit globalwarming to well below two degrees Celsiuscompared with pre-industrial levels.Mr Fuchs added: “When selectingprojects, our focus is on climate protectionprojects that support economic, ecologicaland social development worldwide inregions with FUCHS locations.“In this way we fulfil our global socialresponsibility in the sense of corporatecitizenship. At the same time FUCHS alsosupports the 17 sustainable developmentgoals of the UN to which the company hasofficially committed itself since 2018.”Tel: 01902 907520LEADING COMPOSITE AND ADVANCE MATERIALSSLITTING COMPANY DOUBLE CAPACITYComposites and advanced materialsprecision slitting company, Bindatex, hasdoubled its capacity by investing in a newslitting line.The new line has increased Bindatex’scapacity to 30 tonnes per year. This increasein capacity has also generated five new jobs.The new line can cut UD, prepreg andcomposite materials to widths of just3.175mm.The Manchester-based company, whohave been cutting composites for over 15years, are the only company in the UK that canundertake precision slitting to widths as lowas 1mm. The narrow width poses a challengefor many composite cutting companies.Bindatex’s managing director, ChrisLever, said: “This new slitting line hasdoubled our capacity and allowed us torecruit more staff. It is an exciting time forBindatex as we expand our company.”Bindatex’s lead time from order todelivery is up to six weeks, half the time ofother larger companies in the sector.The UK-based company is an approvedsupplier to major thermoplastic andthermoset manufacturers across the globe.
