Kaiapoi building to be finished in April
By SHELLEY TOPP
The new building under construction on
the corner of Williams Street and
Charles Street in Kaiapoi is due for
completion in April.
Work began on the twolevel building
last April.
The building is designed by Kaiapoi
architects DSC Group and is being built
by Woodend company Paech
Construction.
More than half of the new 780 squaremetre
building has already been leased
to local law firm Corcoran French and
real estate company One Agency, with
another office under offer.
The building has two office spaces
upstairs and three of the four retail
spaces at ground level are still available
for lease. The remaining retail areas
would be ideal for abakery or cafe/wine
bar, and health and beauty or fashion
retailers, according to the developers of
the site, 137 Williams Street Ltd.
The building has been designed to pay
homage to the historical river town and
complement the special location close
to the Kaiapoi River.
The new retail development across
the road includes the Port and Eagle
Brew Pub, Craze Fashion, Kaiapoi
Florist and Gifts, Shoe Therapy, Shine
Hairstylists, Nori Table Sushi Bar and
R.W. Design.
‘‘This area has become adestination
for people in Kaiapoi and we want our
building to contribute to that boutique
environment,’’ the developers say.
The building will feature high ceilings
and large windows, which the
developers say will provide awarm,
lightfilled, airy space with great views.
The stud height of up to 4.5 metres in
some of the retail areas is said by the
developers to be exceptional for a
building of this size.
Acentral lift will ensure easy access
and the building is also soundproofed,
with double glazing and extensive
insulation.
