locally hired on productions have increased from 40 per<br />

cent to 97 per cent of the average crew. About 50,000<br />

BC residents rely on the industry for their livelihood.<br />

Industry Statistics<br />

Two hours north of Hollywood by plane sits the third<br />

largest film and television production center in North<br />

America. It’s a place where your dollar goes a lot further,<br />

with a vast pool of skilled technicians and an array of<br />

technical facilities that meet every need and every budget.<br />

BC is a place where business, government, labour and<br />

the community work together to support the province’s<br />

The BC Film and TV Industry<br />

In 1978, the film and television industry spent $12 million<br />

directly on production in British Columbia. In <strong>20</strong>01,<br />

the film and television industry spent over $1.1 billion,<br />

creating an economic impact of $2.82 billion. Foreign<br />
