Art tutor Cherie Irwin, right, offers advice to course participant Diane Sauer.
Methven based artist
Cherie Irwin has helped
seven women delve
deeper into their creative
side at an art journaling
workshop held at the
longrunning Methven
Summer School.
Art Journaling,says Mrs
Irwin, is away to be deeply
creative without ‘‘external
expectations to ‘produce’
art that isgood enough to
hangonthe wallortosell’’.
It offered a private
space, the freedom to discover
creativity and to get
ideas flowing.
Art Journaling was
about selfexpression and
was ‘‘introspective’’.
It was also ecofriendly
compared to many other
types of art practise andno
real mistakes could be
made, she said.
Course participants
practised a number of
practical mixed media art
techniques to create art
journal pages, exploring
primarily with acrylics and
water colours.
They were also offered
sessions of‘‘guided intentional
creativity’’ where
theylearnt howtolisten to
their intuition and deeper
selves.
