Wednesday January 15 2020 News Latest Canterbury news at starnews.co.nz Tram shelter repairs delayed again • By Jess Gibson REDCLIFFS Residents’ Association secretary Pat McIntosh says a house could have been built in the time it has taken to repair the Moncks Bay tram shelter. City council transport operations manager Steffan Thomas has confirmed it will take until the end of this month to finish work on the 85-year-old structure on Main Rd. Design work started in January last year and repairs were set to be completed before the end of September. However, the completion date was pushed out until the end of December as further design work on the maintenance and strengthening of the shelter was required. Now, that date has been further revised due to a delay with the supply of specific structural timber required for the earthquake bracing upgrade. Dr McIntosh said she is “disappointed” there have been further delays. PUSHED BACK: Residents must wait until the end of this month for the Moncks Bay tram shelter to open, as the city council has confirmed more delays. The association has been critical of the progress made on the shelter since the city council closed it in December 2018 due to earthquake vulnerability. “To be unable to repair such a small structure suggests that they have some systemic problems.
