married KAROLINA DECKER SCHAFFNER 1897, daughter of ABRAHAM DECKER and SARA DECKER. She was born
25 Nov 1876 in Kirscheim-Bolanden, GER, and died 03 Oct 1901 in Kirscheim-Bolanden, GER.
Notes for LEO SCHAFFNER:
Leo, a younger brother of Morris and Jacob, who stayed in Hessloch with
his mother, had a short and tragic life. He married at 25, earned a
living as a butcher, had one son, and died of a respiratory infection
while his wife was pregnant with their second child. She moved back to
Kirscheim-Bolanden with her parents, and one year later she too died.
The two sons were brought over to live with Morris Schaffner. They were
trained in cattle-buying in Erie, PA and later moved to Chicago.

Notes for HEINRICH SCHAFFNER:
Born one year before his father died and 2 years before his mother's
death,he and his brother lived with their Decker grandparents in Germany
until 1910, when they were brought by Milton Schaffner to live with
Morris Schaffner in Erie, PA. Moved to Chicago about 1921. Became naturalized
citizen in 1924. Unfortunately, little is known about him as he
became estranged from the family. It is believed his wife's name was
Edith and that they had two children (names unknown). May have died in
Long Beach, CA. Any information about his descendants would be welcome.
His date of death is unknown. Last known in 1945.

ELI PHILIPS 24 Jan 1906 in Erie, PA. He was born 1874 in Holland, and died 27 Nov 1933 in Erie, PA.
Notes for JOHANNETTE SCHAFFNER:
Johannette was known as "Jenny". She was a devoted daughter to her
mother, Regina. She and her sister Pauline always made a home for her
both in Hessloch and in Erie. As a young woman, she worked in the nearby
city of Worms until she came to the USA in 1903. In Erie, she married
Eli Philips, a Dutchman with a genial pleasant disposition, famous for
the barrels of herring which he imported each year from Holland and
shared with family and friends. Jenny was a pious woman and attended
Temple regularly.
