I enjoyed the successful practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis from 1992-2004 when I fell and broke my
hip. My entire life changed from that moment on. I recovered well from the fracture but I was never able to
walk unassisted after that. I retired from active practice at the age of 92 but continue to see patients for 3
hours a week. I also see a group of patients for psychotherapy every two weeks. I carried out research on
androgyny in India and published a paper on that subject. I also wrote a new preface for the republication of
my book on Germany. I maintain a subscription to concerts and ballet but I am very hampered by the
diminution of my vision.
My greatest pleasure from 1967-on was the collection of antique East Indian and Himalayan Art which is all
destined to go to the Brooklyn Museum. I was very fortunate for the guidance and friendship of Amy Poster,
Curator of Asian Art, who was then Curator of Oriental Art. Fortunately I had collected the art before the
onset of my macular degeneration.
I have reached the age of 96 in relatively good health and am grateful for my good fortune.
to manage his father's venture, the family farm at Pennside. His
was proud of his wife and daughters, their husbands and his grandsons
