Vibraphone • Pitch bends: With the right hand, press a rubber mallet hard against the far end of the metal bar and strike the bar with the left-hand mallet. Immediately after striking, slide the right-hand rubber mallet towards body while maintaining pressure against bar. To add complexity to the sound, follow the initial left-hand strike with a second (almost inaudible) left-hand strike on the bar when the pitch reaches a semitone lower. • The vibraphone player should sing the melody that appears in the obligato staff from bar 137. In the event that the performance involves the optional child singer, the vibraphone player should double the melody at the octave.
