Paris Washboard in town

Paris Washboard, a French jazz group devoted to

the revival of traditional jazz, will perform a musical

repertoire from the 1920s and 1930s at their debut

concert for the Tri-State Jazz Society, Sun Feb 23,

2pm at the Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Road.

Their music is inspired by giants such as James

P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and Duke Ellington, and

includes original compositions. Parish Washboard’s

originality and unique sound emanates from just

four instruments: clarinet, trombone, piano, and

washboard. They bring something new to a jazz

style that originated in the earliest years of the

genre. According to organizers, Paris Washboard

is peerless in the traditional jazz world and has

experienced worldwide success since 1988.

The show is made possible by funds from the

Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission

at Camden County College, a partner of the New

Jersey State Council on the Arts. Buy tickets at

the door only. Member admission is $10; general

admission is $20. If you start a new, first-time Tri-

State Jazz Society annual membership for $20 at the

door, you get free admission to this concert. Fulltime

students with ID and children accompanied

by a paying adult are free. Dancing is welcome at

all performances. Concerts are usually presented

monthly, alternating between Wallingford, PA and
