Attendees meet, watch the course videos,and discuss the readings. Each module includesshort video lectures, guided readings, and primarysources.The course explores the growth of global wineproduction and trade over the past three centuries.You will explore key themes in wine history andlearn about the methods and resources thathistorians use to understand the past.The course is designed for both wine-lovers whowant to know more about their favorite beverage,and for history-lovers who are curious about thegrowing field of commodity history.Topics include the “old” and “new” worlds ofwine, the changing nature of taste, and innovationsin wine quality. You will discuss the historicaldevelopment of appellation systems to classifywine, as well as the importance of global trade increating the world’s distinctive wine regions.Students will be given the tools and skills tostart researching the histories of their own favoritewines.
