Valentine’s Day destination dates!
It’s Valentine’s Day today and if you have
just bought a new ride or don’t really
have anything planned for you and your
sweetheart and you are the proud owner
of a sweet ride, how about taking your
loved one on a cruise to a destination as a
great Valentines date. To help you, here are
5 great drives within the Canterbury area
from the Christchurch CBD that are great
drives as well as great date destinations!
1 2
Crate & Barrel
3 Market Street, Leeston
40.1kms from CBD - 40 minute.
Leeston is one of the great country drives
you can go for around Canterbury. Taking
in the start of the Canterbury plains with
its endless paddocks, Leeston is a great
straight country roads drive. The Crate
& Barrel is also a great bar & restaurant
with some great inner décor. Also check
out the Millar’s tractor spares yard on
station street as wheel as the old Mazda
dealership on Market street.
The Laboratory
17 West Belt, Lincoln
19.7kms from CBD - 20 minute drive.
Lincoln has certainly become a lot
closer as a destination in post quakes
Christchurch. And again is a lovely country
drive through Halswell or Prebbleton.
The Laboratory out at Lincoln is another
great destination. Not only is it a
restaurant and a bar but a Cinema as well.
Drive out for a meal and take in a flick!
3 4 5
Ivory Bar
93 Ivory Street, Rangiora
30.7kms from CBD – 38 minute drive.
Rangiora has a wide range of restaurants
and bars to choose from and none better
than the Ivory Bar in the heart of the
township. Set to the theme of 1920s
opulence and decadence it definitely stands
out. And the drive out to North Canterbury
through the new expanded North Motorway
is a very smooth ride where you can open
up on and put the foot down. Best to
wait until after peak hour traffic if you are
heading out to Rangiora on the Friday night.
Port & Eagle Brewpub
184 Williams Street, Kaiapoi
22.9kms from CBD – 30 minute drive.
The Port & Eagle brewpub is definitely one
of the great new bars on the Canterbury
landscape. Set on the banks of the
Kaiapoi River, it offers perhaps one of the
best dining and drinking views around.
Great location to head out to on a warm
summer’s night with the sun setting late.
And much like Rangiora, time to get out on
that northern Motorway and let your ride
open up. Again best to avoid peak hour
traffic out that way!
Governors Bay Hotel
52 Main road, Governors Bay
13.3kms – 20 minute drive.
Always a spectacular view once you head
over the port hills into this idyllic part of
the world.
The drive over to Governors bay has
always been one of Christchurch’s delights.
With the Governors Bay Hotel sitting right
on the hill looking down over the bay -
giving you another glorious view on a
warm summers day or night as you sit out
on the veranda or front garden bar!
