Recommended Reads!
At King's, we have many keen readers, who not only make the most of their library lessons and
silent reading time but also enjoy reading at home. Each month, a different year group will be
selected and the students who, according to Accelerated Reader, have read the most words in
that year group will be invited to review one of the best books they have read this academic year
for the newsletter. This time, it is the turn of Y11's Grace Chrimes.
The Da Vinci Code
The Da Vinci Code is a fast paced thriller
that consists of talented characters
finding clues through riddles. Suspense
is built repetitively throughout the book
and leaves the readers grasping on to the
end of their chairs. If you love any type
of action and intertwined mystery, then
you will love this cryptic book. This book
flips from the hectic point of view from
Harvard University Professor of History
of Art and Symbology Robert Langdon
(with his assistant Sophie Nevue), to the
Bishop Aringarosa of Opus Dei and Silas,
a Monk of Opus Dei. There are a few
other characters with a few main plots
but I won't go into much detail. There is
a gripping cat and mouse chase shown
throughout the book that leaves you
reading chapter after chapter.
This book has been seen as quite
controversial as it presents topics as
being complete facts, such as religious
ideas, which may offend people. I
personally believe that all the
information used within this book makes
it more captivating and opens your mind
to other potential possibilities. The book
has also been criticized for the order that
it is written in. However, I feel as though
the way it is written makes it more
enthralling as the episodic structure, to
me, is very interesting. All in all, I would
suggest this book for your entertainment
if you enjoy captivating enigmas and
mind baffling resolutions. The Da Vinci
Code will hopefully be put into the
school library, along with the other
books written by Dan Brown that I am
still yet to read.
Other Books by Dan Brown:
-Angels and Demons
-The Lost Symbol
