new buildings as well as in R&D.
At this moment, there is an uncertainty
concerning which is the best fuel for the
future. The only technically applicable alternatives
are liquefied natural gas (LNG),
use of batteries and sustainable advanced
biofuels. In the long term, large-scale use
of carbon-neutral fuels is required.
Since there is no clear solution yet, Attica
is investigating the use of batteries on
board in order to have semi hybrid vessels.

RoPax: You mention in a former interview
to standardize your fleet in the future. Do
you plan newbuildings?
Spiros Paschalis: Actually, we have never
ceased our plans for newbuilding vessels.
Please be advised that in the framework of
our Agenda 2022, we are working on a fleet
development/renewal project, comprising
the designing of three ferry prototypes for
different type of operations (for domestic
and international routes). Those vessels
would be environmentally friendly ones,
belonging in the new generation of ferries.
RoPax: Which propulsion you will prefer
in the future LNG, Hydrogen, electric as
Hybrid to reduce your emission?

We believe that by 2030 new technology
solutions as well as alternative fuels will be
available in order that we can reach IMO
ambition of 2050.
RoPax: Do you see a relaunch of the Greek
economy and a good opportunity to generate
more traffic in the next years?
Spiros Paschalis: It is true that entering into
a recovering period seems to have changed
the general atmosphere in the Greek Market.
It appears that the Greek economy is recovering
and some sectors, such as tourism
and the real estate market, are rising.
The above framework plays an encouraging
role for our industry, which is related
to the Tourism industry.
