LNG, it is not an easy subject to distil

down, it has been said that dual fuel

engines burning LNG on lower loads

eff ectively negate the CO2 emission

savings because of methane slip. LNG has

zero sulphur dioxide (SOX) which is good,

and it reduces the NOX which is also a big

plus. But the NOX are a small element of

marine diesel engine exhaust emissions

and we have had Tier 2 rules and Tier 3

rules in terms of limiting the amount of

NOX that a marine diesel engine can

produce. With the limit in SOX in terms

of air emissions, you can either burn more

expensive fuel that the engine is not designed

for or you burn heavy fuel oil that

the engine was designed for and fit exhaust

gas abatement equipment. But I come back

to your question, the oil of the future is

most probably hydrogen, or more correctly,

ammonia (as a Hydrogen carrier).

Electric propulsion systems with batteries

are good solutions for short distance

operations but not for long distance with

large ferries.

RoPax: If we come back to your other new

planned vessel from the Flensburg Shipyard.

How is the planning, do you have

some information?

Andrew Sheen: We have a contract with

the shipyard, and we expect that they will

fulfil all of their obligations.

RoPax: Do you see growth in the freight

market between France and Ireland in the

future?

Andrew Sheen: There is growth currently,

and some operators made some tests

on flows between Ireland and the

Continent. The message to freight operators

is secure your space early. Make sure

you secure your slots and capacity to

manage whatever checks come in after

Brexit.

RoPax: Thank you very much for the conversation.
