5. What’s your Poison?
I think "poison" for any creative comes from three
main things:
- Comparing yourself to others
- Being complacent in your skillset/education
- Not taking risks
While I've personally been guilty of all of these
things from time to time, I make a concerted effort
to not let any of them become a detriment. Being
self-aware is half the battle.
6. How is your ART “your Religion”?
I have worked on and for RAW for almost a decade.
Most everything I do is for or because of the
organization. I would say that is indeed a religion!
Ha! Ultimately, I want to see RAW as a platform,
community and industry standard be the best it can
possibly be.
- Hard work
- Persistence, persistence, persistence
- More hard work
The only guaranteed return on investment I've ever
seen (whether it be in my own life or in other
success stories) is hard work. It's the only way to
achieve anything.
9. What is your favorite inspirational philosophy in
life?
"Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional". -
Haruki Murakami
10. Where do you see your career going in five
years? 10 years? Next year? Next month?
I'd like to see RAW on every continent being able to
expose new cultures and communities of artists
everywhere.
7. What is the message of your art?
I think RAW is a bit of a rebel in the art world
(without the negative connotation). We don't really
subscribe to the rules of how things...
should or shouldn't work. We've carved our own path,
independently without any investment, large source of
funding, giant corporate sponsors, etc. Much like our
artists, we're independent through and through.
I think if there is one message we send, it's that
you can do it your own way with a lot of elbow grease
and care.
8. What do you really think it takes to make it? Tell
us 3 keys...
11. Legacy: At the end of the day, how do you
want your fans to remember you and your art?
I want RAW to be a warm home for independent
artists.
Somewhere they can go to get nourished with
everything they need.
I want artists to regard us as a community they
can both participate in and give back to.
I want us to continue to help launch careers,
realize dreams and ensure creativity is incubated
everywhere, because I personally believe creativity
can, does and will always be the biggest instrument
for change in our world.
