a lot of them are turning up to Pub in the
Park! I’ve known them for years and I’ve
supported them over the years, and of
course when I decided to leave Saturday
Kitchen they supported me since then
as well. So it’s an accumulation of me
supporting them and them supporting
me. So they’re great mates and I think
that comes across on camera.
Have you had any guests that have
been particularly memorable?
We had Jack Savoretti here recently,
he was fantastic. He was trying to learn
from the master baker Richard Bertinet,
who was attempting to teach him how to
make bread and he making a right mess
of it! So he was great fun. You just have
such a great laugh, and that’s the key to
doing it here.
We film it at the house and it’s quite
chilled out and very similar to this
festival. Those are the projects I’m
enjoying these days - and that’s why
Pub in the Park appeals so much. It’s
very much a family atmosphere and I
can just walk around. You go to some
festivals and you are hidden around the
back, you aren’t allowed to come out
and have a wander around.
Other than a busy schedule of
summer festivals, have you got any
books in the pipeline?
I’ve just finished a book and TV show
called Islands to Highlands. The TV
show will be out in April and book is out
now. We’ve also just taken over a hotel
at Silverstone so I’m going to be busy
doing that. Yeah, there’s a few things
happening and a few more things in the
pipeline - I should be busy! But not too
busy to indulge in a bit of music and fun
this summer!
