A S I A P A C I F I C N E W SPETRONAS’ BreakthroughTechnology In Structure HealthMonitoringPETRONAS announced a breakthrough invention, AdvanceDiagnostic and Prognostic Technology (ADaPT), a digitalsolution that predicts mechanical damage at various facilitiesto prevent unplanned plant shutdown and revenue loss.Developed by local talents, the technology is a quantum leap in structurehealth monitoring and has the potential to be used at facilities beyondthe energy sector, including construction, shipping, aeronautics,motorsports and automobiles.ADaPT replaces manual, conventional inspections by predictingstructural and mechanical cracks through continuous onlinemonitoring, offering accurate prediction based on pressure, temperatureand flow patterns.64
It detects the early signs of mechanicaldamage allowing prediction of asset’sremaining life expectancy and avoidsunplanned shutdown of plants.ADaPT was launched by PETRONASProject Delivery & Technology SeniorVice President Samsudin Miskon,accompanied by PETRONAS ProjectDelivery & Technology Head of GroupTechnical Solutions (GTS) Khairol AnuarShukri and PETRONAS Chemicals MTBESdn Bhd (PCMTBE) Chief ExecutiveOfficer Azlimi M Lazim.The digital solution is a collaborationinvolving GTS, PCMTBE and UniversitiTeknologi PETRONAS, which began inJanuary 2018.Khairol said ADaPT is the result ofPETRONAS’ innovation capabilityunderpinned by a passion for technologicaladvancement in its operational culture.“The fruition of ADaPT, with its highperformance and accuracy, is anothertestament to PETRONAS’ commitmentas a progressive energy and solutionspartner,” he said.Meanwhile, Azlimi said with ADaPT,PCMTBE has optimised plant efficiencyby planning around the predictedremaining life expectancy.“The digital solution had successfullyavoided the unplanned shutdown thatcould have cost us RM30 million. It hadalso increased PCMTBE’s productionby seven per cent, worth RM63 million,from April 2019 to December 2019,” headded.PETRONAS welcomes partnerships todeploy ADaPT as the application is notlimited to the energy sector.65
