Brooches set to ‘Take Off’<br />

Made of pressed and sta<strong>in</strong>ed horn, a material loved by April with a comb<strong>in</strong>ed estimate of £300-400. Further<br />

Art Nouveau jewellery designers, four very rare entries of jewellery are now <strong>in</strong>vited.<br />

<strong>in</strong>sect brooches were unearthed at a recent valuation<br />

event <strong>in</strong> <strong>Lichfield</strong>.<br />

Found by the local client tucked away <strong>in</strong> a small box,<br />

when clear<strong>in</strong>g out a house, the brooches which date<br />

from the early 20th Century take the form of two<br />

dragonflies, a bee and a w<strong>in</strong>ged <strong>in</strong>sect, one of which bears<br />

the ‘GIP’, signature of Parisian jeweller Georges<br />

Pierre.TV's Kate Bliss, Hanson's Jewellery, Watches and<br />

Silver Consultant comments on the discovery.<br />

“Much sought after by jewellery collectors, Pierre’s<br />

designs often exploit the translucent and iridescent<br />

qualities of the organic material to great effect and he<br />

quickly grew to be one of the masters of Art Nouveau<br />

horn jewellery.”<br />

Decorative Art & Design auction at Bishton Hall on 7th<br />
