In the 19 the cencury, a trading post and a mission was located in the vicinity of Juba at a
place called Gondokoro. Gondokoro was also the base to British explorer,Sir Samuel Baker
during his expeditions to what is south Sudan and northern Uganda today. In 2005, juba
became the interim seat and capital of the autonomous Government of the South Sudan.
Juba became the world's newest capital on 09 July 2011 when south Sudan was declared
independent from the Republic of Sudan.
