Mind The Gap
Ever felt that sense of disengagement
that seems to sap
your strength and stamina
hindering you from feeling free
to pursue more in your relationships,
your work, and even in
your own mind and heart? It’s a
general sense of feeling distant
from the things that you know
are better but just have a hard
time stepping into. . .
On a small scale, it’s when
you know you shouldn’t buy
that bag of chips and dip and
binge-watch the latest Netflix
series, but you just don’t seem
to have the necessary will to
go and treadmill instead. Or
on a bigger scale, it’s when you
know that you shouldn’t speak
that harsh word to your son or
daughter because it won’t help
anyone in the long run. Still,
that sense of disengagement
causes you to express your frustration
instead of moving into
something far more productive
and nurturing.
Disengagement from better,
more wholesome, productive
and life-giving things...we all
experience it, and we all sometimes
feel helpless to avoid it.
Brene Brown, a sociologist
and cultural observer, suggests
this important idea to help us
to overcome this ‘gap’ between
what we often feel/do and what
we should feel/do. She says:
“We can’t give people what we
don’t have. Who we are matters
immeasurably more than what
we know or who we want to be.”
(Daring Greatly, page 176)
Who we are matters the most.
Not what we have learned or
what we think we know, but
who we are.
And who we are is so much
more than just the name we
have and the accomplishments
or influence we exert. ‘Who we
are’ goes right down to the essence
of what makes me, me.
Maybe the most important aspect
of discovering who we are
is found in those who have the
capacity to create who we are.
How long do you think that list
is? In my mind, it stops right
around .1. God made each of us.
He desires that each of us find
ourselves in our true identity,
and that true identity is in relationship
with Him.
And so Jesus makes a way
back into real life.
When you admit that to Jesus,
MINISTERIAL MESSAGES
that you want more out of life
that you can’t get on your own,
then you begin to open the possibility
of living engaged!
It says in Romans 8:39 that
nothing can separate a person
from the love of God. That is
His fundamental attitude toward
you and I. But, our experience
of that love is hindered by
the fact that we have disengaged
from Him.
If you want to overcome that
sense of disengagement in your
life, then maybe it’s time to
consider engaging with Jesus
and letting His love transform
you into everything you were
designed to be!
Many blessings on you on
your journey.
Society. That money supports on-going research
into a cause for and finding a cure for the disease.
The funds also help provide low-cost treatments
for those who live with multiple sclerosis and
activities which provide education about the
disease as well as other programming.
Things are different in 2020. Because of concerns
about COVID-19, there will be no physical
bike tour and no social gatherings like hosting
fundraising events.
That isn’t stopping Zurowski and his team, who
call themselves the C&C Realty MSaries. They
are committed to continuing to raise money for
MS as they have done for almost a decade now.
But, since they won’t be heading out on the road
as usual, Zurowski has come up with a new idea.
Along with his sister Jinelle this year’s plan is
to produce and sell local cookbooks that contain
recipes of family-favourite meals. Jinelle says the
book should be ready for sale sometime in June
and that the name of the book will be - Recipe
for a Cure. “We plan on using social media as a
platform for selling the cookbooks that will cost
$20 per book. We will provide contactless pick
up in the Regina Beach area and will also have a
scheduled drop off in Regina.”
Jinelle put out a call on Facebook asking that
tried and true recipes be sent to her via email
jinellezurowski@gmail.com. Within just a couple
of days, she says the response was great and
that people continue to send in ideas on how to
prepare their best-loved meals. “And keep them
coming,” she says, “we are always looking for
more recipes to include.”
She’s confident that the cookbook will be a
success and that people in the community will
support this effort by purchasing one. Already
she says pre-orders for the book have been placed
and that local businesses in Regina Beach have
agreed to sell it in their stores once it is produced.
“We’ll do our best to reach our goal just as
we’ve been doing for years.”
2020 Grand Prize Scholarship
Winner, Mackenzie Van Damme
Mackenzie was raised
on a farm just outside
of Imperial, Saskatchewan
and has always had a
passion for agriculture.
Mackenzie is part of a long
farming family history. Van
Damme farms was established
over a century ago, in 1908.
It began as a mixed beef and
grain operation and today it’s a
grain-only operation. With over
7,000 acres of land, Mackenzie’s
family grows several crops,
including oilseeds, cereal grains
and pulses.
In Mackenzie’s award winning
essay submission, she highlighted
the impact of agriculture on
Saskatchewan, specifically on
her own community, Imperial.
“This industry has benefited our
community in numerous ways
and without agriculture, Imperial
would be little more than a
ghost town,” she writes. Mackenzie
also raises an interesting
discussion in her essay about
the use of genetically modified
organisms, new technology in
the agriculture sector and how
innovation has modernized
farms and increased sustainability
across the industry.
Mackenzie will be furthering
her education at the University
of Saskatchewan. She plans to
obtain a Bachelor’s of Science
in Agriculture with a focus on
Agronomy.
