Seniors return to 206 Club sessions<br />

group returned to normal<br />
sessions.<br />

members,and ateam of<br />
volunteers,onday one of the<br />
club’s return.<br />
The group, mostlymade upof<br />
women,reconnectedand<br />
socialised over games, took<br />
partinactivitiesand enjoyed a<br />
warmmeal.<br />
Both Dot and Betty,96and 95<br />
respectively, werepleased to<br />
be back with others; Betty had<br />
her 95th birthday during<br />
lockdown.<br />
The ladies have been<br />
regulars at206 Club for the<br />
pastfew years, joiningunder<br />
former directorofday services<br />
MaryHarrison.The role was<br />
takenoverbyAdair Pethig<br />
threeyears ago.<br />

others. Over lockdownMrs<br />

phone calls to checkinon<br />
membersand keepthemupto<br />
date with herown lockdown<br />
activities.She tended her<br />
gardenand knittedacardigan.<br />
On averagethere are around<br />
20 people persession, as well<br />
as ateam of volunteers helping<br />
to keepthings running<br />
smoothly, Mrs Pethig said.<br />
However, shewould like to<br />
have acouple of extra<br />
volunteers during the week. If<br />

lunches and help with<br />
activities or games like the<br />
popular Housiesessions.<br />

cleaning oftables before<br />
eating, areminder that<br />
sensible hygiene standardsare<br />
just part of thenew normal.<br />
Hotel owner is supporter of volunteer effort<br />
Supporting volunteers and<br />
volunteeringinthe community<br />
is achancetogive back to the<br />
community, says Hotel<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong>owner Johny Singh.<br />
Mr Singh has been an avid<br />
supporter of volunteer<br />
organisations in the community<br />
sincetakingover the hotel two<br />
years ago.<br />
Since then thehotelhas<br />
helped hosts of avariety of<br />
volunteer fundraisers from<br />
Daffodil Day quiz events to<br />
fundraisers for hospice and<br />
White Ribbon. The hotel’s Turf<br />
Bar staffraised thousands of<br />
dollars forProstate Cancer<br />
Foundation’s Blue September.<br />
