Funds for NHS<br />

Acharity auction broadcast from a garden shed <strong>in</strong> lockdown<br />
by TV personality Charles Hanson has raised £38,000 for<br />
the NHS.<br />
Charles, an auctioneer based <strong>in</strong> Derby, antiques expert <strong>and</strong> familiar<br />
face on BBC Barga<strong>in</strong> Hunt <strong>and</strong> Antiques Road Trip, decided he just<br />
had to do someth<strong>in</strong>g to help health workers <strong>and</strong> patients battle<br />
Covid-19.<br />
He came up with the idea of runn<strong>in</strong>g an onl<strong>in</strong>e auction from his<br />
garden shed for the NHS <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> less than a week sourced more than<br />
50 lots from members of the public <strong>and</strong> celebrities <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Drew<br />
Pritchard from TV’s Salvage Hunters.<br />
The sale made a f<strong>in</strong>al total of £29,270. That figure was enhanced by<br />
public donations on a Just Giv<strong>in</strong>g page set up to support the sale,<br />
plus a decision by Drew Pritchard to double his lot offer of a day<br />
our salvage shopp<strong>in</strong>g. Every penny has been donated to Derby <strong>and</strong><br />
Burton Hospitals Charity Covid-19 Appeal.<br />
The top sell<strong>in</strong>g lot was a day out salvage/antique shopp<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
Drew Prichard which was contested to £3,700. His iconic cap<br />
brought <strong>in</strong> another £480. Post-auction, Drew decided to offer a<br />
second day out with him to an under bidder which meant his lots<br />
alone raised £8,000.<br />
