Wedding Wellness
Vow to make your wellness a priority.
With Sarah Barr from New Beginnings
Hi, I am a counsellor and a bride-to-be, so I will be trying to follow my own advice in the run up to my wedding in
March. We, as brides-to-be, may have the occasional wobble in the build up to our big day, but if you’re feeling a
little stressed, here are five ways to mind your wellness in the lead up to your wedding day.
Practice mindfulness
and lower your stress
With so much of your focus and effort being
poured into planning your wedding I am
guessing, like myself, you want to savour
and capture every moment of your wedding
day. If you tend to think quite a bit about the
future, or gravitate towards reminiscing
about your past, you are not fully focused on
living in the moment.
Practising mindfulness is about focusing on
the here and now, stopping and taking stock
of what is happening around you.
The best time to start practicing
this, is now!
What do you see? Hear? Smell? Touch?
Taste? Whilst doing this, take a deep breath,
in through your nose. Fill your lungs with air,
hold for a couple of seconds and exhale.
Talking helps you to worry less and it
gives you reassurance.
Remember, you don’t have to do it all by
yourself.
Be Authentic
When you are authentic, you are being true
to yourself. You are not people pleasing or
hiding how you really feel.
It is an expression of your real self. Accept
yourself for who you are, don’t compromise
your beliefs or feelings, say ‘no’ and create
the type of wedding you want.
After all it is your wedding day, a day to
celebrate the love between you and your
partner.
Write it down
Enjoy your day
Enjoy the planning and organising, the
creating and the celebrating.
Remind yourself daily what you are grateful
for and try not to dwell on anything that may
not go to plan.
Keep your perspective clear and remember
this is all about you and your partner, this is
your day. Your time to show the world your
love.
Wishing you the most wonderful wedding,
take care.

Talk
When you’re feeling stressed with wedding
planning don’t bottle it up. Talk to friends
and family and get it off your chest. Ask
yourself what advice would you give to a
friend? This will help you to put everything
back into perspective and find new solutions.
Writing can really give your well-being a
boost.
Regular writing can give you an outlet for
your stress. It will help you organise your
thoughts, clarify your feelings, feel more in
control and improve your self-esteem.
Treat yourself to a pretty journal/diary,
each morning write down your to-do list,
your goals and three things you are grateful
for.
