Lee Preston will present a three-hour hands-on PowerPoint guided document
and artifact session. Participants will read letters, deeds, wills, inventories, census
records, indentures, etc. dating to the 17 th century and handle prehistoric and
historic artifacts dating back 10,000 years. Sites such as Simpsonville Mill,
Longwood, Mt Pleasant, Patapsco Female Institute and Indian Sites are included.

Pooches’ Pool Party
Pooches’ Pool Party
18 yrs + (people) / Sep 10 / $10 per dog
This unique canine-only swim will wrap up the “Dog Daze” of summer. Pooches
and their pals (the human kind) are invited to paddle and play before the pool is
closed for the season. Please be aware that all dog park/off-leash area rules apply
to this event and must be followed. All dog handlers must be at least 18 years of
age. Children under the age of 12 are NOT permitted. Youth 12-17 years of age must
be accompanied by a registered adult. Please curb your canine before entering the
pool; "accidents" can result in pool closure and an early end to the fun! Space is
limited and advance registration is required for this popular event. REGISTRATION
BEGINS AUGUST 4 for residents; AUGUST 11 for non-residents. Fee includes admission
of one dog accompanied by a maximum of two handlers and a doggie gift bag for
each pooch swimmer. No more than one dog per human, please. Events cancelled
if minimum enrollment is not met. Rain date: Sunday, September 11. Registration:

Blacksmith Day

Celebrate the Ellicott City Fall Fest by joining members of the Blacksmith Guild
of Central Maryland at their forges on the B&O Plaza. The station provides a rare
opportunity to watch blacksmiths ply their trade. Children 5-12 years old can try
their hand at forging plasticene clay with wooden hammers. Preregister for 11:30
