WOODBOROUGH ART GROUP -
VIRTUAL ART CLUB!
by Woodborough Art Group
local group says, “keep
making new friends”
by Nottingham Oddfellows
As lockdown continues and scares of the
resurgence of the virus are reported daily, virtual
art clubs like the one Woodborough Art Group
have, using WhatsApp, are becoming more and
more important.
For the members of Woodborough Art Group, the
WhatsApp challenge has been a lifeline that has
helped members get through the isolation, fear and
loneliness imposed upon us.
The huge benefit has been that the art produced
through the challenges has gone from strength to
strength. Every member has improved significantly
their range of skills, their composition and their
creativity.
Each weekly challenge sets new perimeters on use
of colour, different mediums and creative thought
as well as knowhow and techniques. It is amazing
the level of commitment from members and their
dedication. We are planning to hold a full exhibition of
the art work produced during lockdown. The details
are not finalised yet but hopefully later in the year we
will have a clearer idea of venue and timescale.
As an Art Group we are always looking for new
members and if you would like to get involved please
e mail: woodboroughartgroup@gmail.com or call
Jenny McKenzie, Secretary on 07380 668745.
Despite ongoing social restrictions, local friendly
society Nottingham Oddfellows has revealed big
plans for its annual Friendship Month celebrations.
The group, based in Nottingham is a non-profit
membership organisation which holds regular social
events in the Nottingham area.
Friendship Month, held in September, is an annual
celebration designed to encourage anyone interested
in meeting new people locally to give one of their
special no-obligation social events a try.
On Saturday 5 September, meeting at 10.30hrs at
the Visitor Centre, the group’s hosting a Friendship
Walk around Attenborough Nature Reserve. Non
members are most welcome and all attendees will
receive a goody bag!
Although the group pressed pause on its regular
schedule of face-to-face meetings, it has been a
busy year for its local teams. During the Covid-19
lockdown, staff and volunteers regularly checked in
on its 342 members, many who are shielding or live
on their own.
Karen Pye-Smith, Social Organiser of the Nottingham
Branch of Oddfellows said: “Friendship Month is
our annual celebration of all things friendship, and
this year is no different. We’re still here to welcome
old friends, and new. That’s why we’re encouraging
people to take part in one of our events and see what
we offer.”
Anyone interested in giving the group a try is invited
to give them a call. Contact Karen Pye-Smith on
01476 979572 or 07921821866 or Karen.pye-smith@
oddfellows.co.uk. Future events are also listed
online at www.oddfellows.co.uk/events.
