Here is an update on Arthritis Action’s services
for people with arthritis looking for additional
support.
Online Arthritis Action Groups
https:/www.arthritisaction.org.uk/media-centre/
events/
When we agreed to be the central hub for
Nottingham - For The Love Of Scrubs group, little
did we know we would still be going strong in
August!
Four months of making and the requests are still
coming in. We have hit over 28,000 makes so far,
these include scrubs, headbands, scrubs caps,
laundry bags, ear savers and face masks for the
NHS, community workers, frontline key workers and
vulnerable groups around Nottinghamshire.
We have only been able to do this with the hard work
and commitment of hundreds of volunteers giving
their time to help with sewing, sharing information to
their contacts, delivering requested items, running
local hubs, coordinating distribution, managing
supplies, admin of the facebook group and all the
other things needed to ensure the smooth running of
a group of over 1700 supporters .
With talk of a second wave we are putting plans in
place so that we can continue to operate over the
next 6 months, allowing us to continue responding to
requests for help.
We are pleased to announce we are running Arthritis
Action Group meetings online via Zoom, including
a group for Nottingham. The meetings are a way
to connect with other people with arthritis, share
experiences and tips, and support each other.
Participants will need to contact us directly for the
log in instructions for the meeting, and we have
produced How To guides for those not familiar with
using Zoom.
Arthritis Appropriate Exercise Videos
https://www.arthritisaction.org.uk/living-witharthritis/resource-centre/exercises/
Many people living with a long-term health condition
find it difficult to attend exercise classes. To help
them, Arthritis Action recently launched a series of
online chair based exercises developed with the aim
of helping those with hip, knee or spinal Osteoarthritis
be more mobile and active.
Self-Management Resource
https://www.arthritisaction.org.uk/onlinesme
We also have video resources exploring different
elements of self-management, including pain
management, distraction techniques and pacing.
