In 1905, two years after the Wright Brothers’ successful flight at Kitty
Hawk, the Federation Aeronautique Internationale was founded in France
to oversee sporting aviation. Orville Wright was its chairman. When qualifying
for an aviator’s certificate, the president of the Federation signed the
certificate. This certificate for John E. Wojton, of North Chicago, Illinois,
carries Wright’s signature.
