Bowlers roll out at tourney
Thesearch for the districtstop
indoor bowls team was on last
week for members of the Mid
Canterbury Federationof
Women’s Institutes.
Theladies, most of whom are
novice players, ralliedfor their
annual triples indoor bowls rollup
at the Ashburton Indoor
Bowls Stadium.
They were searching for a
championteam to represent the
district in the Canterbury
Federation of WI’s annual
regional interprovincial indoor
bowls playoffs, which has been
played for the past 10 years.
It will be held in Ashburton
laterthis month.

wasthankful to the members for
playing and ‘‘being goodsports. We
all had fun which was important.’’
She said five teamsrepresenting
three of thedistricts eight WI’s
took part at the AshburtonIndoor
Bowls Stadium;Hinds(two teams),
Netherby (twoteams) and a
Wakanui team of Beanice Laird,
Ruth Logan andDianne Carter,
who won.
Amongthe other teamswere
indoor bowls novices Adrienne
Pegler, Adrienne Hodson and
Barbara Burst who were playing
for Netherby WI.
The ladies were keen to
represent their branchand were
playing together for thefirst time.
They admitted they were more
usedtoatennis court than abowls
mat buthad happily come away
with onewin and one loss by noon.
