Incotrans display container visits Houston
Intercontinental Transport B.V. (Incotrans)
recently sent a 40-foot
freight container bearing unusual
cargo to Houston. The container,
equipped with a bar, kitchen,
miniature movie theater and steating,
is used to demonstrate the handling
of containerized cargo.
On the outside, the demonstration
container (DEMCO) resembles any
the 250,000 containers Incotrans carries
across the Atlantic each year. On
the inside, however, are facilities for a
90-minute audio-visual program that
Incotrans shows its current and prospective
customers.

new vice president
Matt J. Daniels has been named vice
president of Wijsmuller, a Dutch
heavy lift transportation,towage
and salvage
company.

has worked in
the offshore industry
for several
years, will
work in Wijsmuller’sNetherlands

ters for three months before joining
the company’s U.S. office in Houston.
Wijsmuller operates the world’s
largest fleet of heavy lift semi-submersible
vessels.
Girl Friends
set conclave
The Girl Friends, Inc., will hold its
51st National Conclave May 22-25 at
Houston’s Westin Oaks Hotel. The
conference’s theme will be
"Houston, Port International,"
recognizing the importance of the
Port of Houston to the city’s growth.
Port of Houston Authority Commissioner
Howard J. Middleton will
present the conclave’s welcome address
on May 22. Members of the
organization will tour the city during
the weekend meeting.
Girl Friends was formed in 1927 to
bring together women across the
country. The organization has 38
chapters in major U.S. cities.
Incotrans is an international liner
shipping group based in Rotterdam,
The Netherlands. The company specializes
in ocean transportation between
Europe and North America.
The air-conditioned container has
visited 150 companies and hosted
more than 2,500 ’guests during its
seven years in service. DEMCO
recently visited Italy, Switzerland and
Germany.
The program recently made its U.S.
debut, touring the southern part of
the country. DEMCO also was
scheduled to travel to the U.S.
Midwest, West Coast and Canadian
Pacific coast. During the program’s
Houston stop, the container visited
Tranquility Park and the World Trade
Center.
DEMCO enables employees of Incotrans’
client companies to learn
about the role of sea and inland transportation
in their businesses.
