The American Academy of Neurology’s continuous commitment to professional development of neurology residents, fellows, and those medical students interested in neurology is commendable and, certainly, is greatly appreciated. The AAN leadership, staff, and members are doing an outstanding job by dedicating their time and effort to promote a nurturing environment for the neurology trainees and by creating a multitude of opportunities for their personal and professional growth. A C C O M P L I S H M E N T S • HELPING FELLOW NEuROLOGISTS. Seeking to share the practice, education, and science benefits of the AAN with areas of the world that most need them, we reached out to neurology professionals in designated low-income countries and provided more than 100 memberships through our reduced dues program. • NEW RELIEF FOR SCHOOL LOAN DEBT. The AAN Partners Program provided a new benefit to members in 2006 that helps them consolidate federal student loans and reduce monthly payments by as much as 60 percent. • BuILDING BIGGER BRAINS. Membership in our BRAINS (Business and Research Administrators in Neurology Society) affiliate increased by 23 percent over 2005 as practice managers and administrators recognized the value of connecting with their peers and sharing information on increasing reimbursements and efficiencies while reducing expenses. • IMPROVEMENTS FOR NEUROlOGy TODAy ® . This popular AAN magazine moved from a monthly to biweekly schedule, enabling timelier reporting on neurological issues and trends and providing a more newsworthy publication to members.
