However, universities can prefer students totake an Art Foundation course to broaden their experienceprior to starting a degree.REASONS TO STUDY THIS COURSE3 It combines your passion for football with a soundtheoretical underpinning that will help you succeed ina career in sport.3 There will be opportunities to develop your ability toplay, coach and officiate football and futsal.3 It provides real work experience in football coachingand officiating.3 The qualification includes access to NationalGoverning Body coaching/officiating courses.3 It prepares you for university, USA scholarships oremployment in coaching/refereeing.3 You can combine the course with another AS-Leveland/or a Sports Academy.WHAT YOU WILL STUDYAll units are internally assessed and include Careers inSport, Practical Sport, Health & Wellbeing, Coachingskills, Sports Development and Self-employment inSport. You will also be required to work with ourcommunity partners to volunteer in sport.HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSEDInternally assessed units, which could include verbalrecordings, podcasts, observed practicals, writtenreports and presentations.WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO TAKETHIS COURSE• five grade 4s or above• grade 4 in Maths and/or English• to be involved in football, either playing, officiating orcoaching at a good local level on a regular basisPROGRESSIONCareers in sport either via apprenticeships, a USscholarship, direct employment or university. It isanticipated that students who complete this coursewill go on to pursue careers in professional sport,coaching, fitness, performance analysis, sportsdevelopment or nutrition.PRIESTLEY EXTRAAs well as research trips and gallery visits, we invitespeakers from universities and from industry to talk aboutcareer possibilities.PRIESTLEY EXTRAThe course runs alongside our sports academieswhich give you the opportunity to compete at local, regionaland national level.
