REASONS TO STUDY THIS COURSE

3 T-Levels combine classroom theory, practical learning

and a significant industry placement.

3 One T-Level is the equivalent of three A-Levels.

3 You will gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours

needed to progress into skilled employment or higher

level technical training or study in the Health and

Science sector.

3 You will have the opportunity to participate in an

industry placement.

WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

Core Content – Core Science concepts, scientific and

clinical practice, managing information and data in the

science sector, health and safety in the science sector.

Occupational Specialism – Laboratory Sciences, plan and

perform a range of appropriate scientific techniques to

collect experimental data in a laboratory setting.

Industry placement of at least 45 days.

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

Core Content: exam and externally-set project

Occupational Specialism: practical assignments

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE

THIS COURSE

• interest in key scientific concepts and enthusiasm for

planning and carrying out practical work in a laboratory.

• minimum requirements for a Level 3 course ie. five

GCSEs 4 and above

• minimum GCSE Maths grade 5

• minimum GCSE English Language grade 4

PROGRESSION

A degree apprenticeship, university degree or skilled

employment. An exciting career in the Science or

Healthcare sector, possibly in laboratory research in

hospitals and public health organisations, environmental

agencies, utility companies, forensic science institutions,

food manufacturing companies, and pharmaceutical and

chemical companies.

3 You are actively concerned about the world around

you and want to do something useful and constructive

within it.

3 You are interested in issues in wider society such as

gender equality, education, crime prevention

strategies and demographic changes.

3 You want to further develop your skills of analysis and

evaluation.

WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

Year 1 (AS) - Socialisation and Culture, Families and

Households, Education, and Methods of

Sociological Enquiry.

Year 2 (A-Level) - Power and Stratification, Crime and

Deviance.

Each topic is underpinned with sociological perspectives

based on the work of key theorists. Some of the issues

we look at include: What is culture? Why does the

attainment of pupils differ according to class, gender

and ethnicity?

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

Year 1 (AS) – two written exams

Year 2 (A-Level) – three written exams

Progress will be monitored through written assessments,

tests and progress reviews.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE

THIS COURSE

• fability to construct logical and critical arguments

using sociological knowledge

• ability to articulate arguments effectively in class

discussions and written assessments

• very good command of English

• minimum average GCSE score of 5

PROGRESSION

Careers in the police, probation service, journalism,

anthropology, social work, teaching, law and any other

career where you will deal with people from different

social backgrounds. Sociology combines well with many

subjects like English, Law, Politics, Media Studies,

History, Religious Studies, Philosophy and Business

Studies. As a social science, many students also

combine Sociology with Psychology.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA

Visits to local industry to increase understanding of science in

the workplace. Students undertaking Science courses have

also taken part in hands on practical activities at Manchester

University and Chester University.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA

Sociology students have enjoyed excursions to London and

New York in recent years, as well as having the support of

regular workshops and study sessions.
