Das Ostseebad Zinnowitz kann auf über 700 Jahre Geschichte
zurückblicken. Die Entwicklung zum attraktiven
Seebad kam allerdings erst 1851 in Gang, als von
offizieller Stelle der Badebetrieb erlaubt wurde. Das
Bad im Meer war damals erst in Mode gekommen und
lockte zusehends all die Gäste, die zur Sommerfrische
angereist waren.
Am Strand wurden getrennte Damen- und Herrenbäder
angelegt – ganz so, wie es sich seinerzeit gehörte.
Außerdem baute man eine Seebrücke und jene Häuser,
die charakteristisch für die berühmten Ostseebäder
werden sollten: kunstvoll verzierte Villen mit
Seeblick und am Strand eine Promenade über die Bewohner
und Bewunderer flanieren konnten.
Bis heute profitiert die Stadt von der ansprechenden
Schönheit dieser Architektur. Liebevoll restauriert und
gepflegt, bestimmen diese Baudenkmäler im Bäderstil
das Bild entlang der Zinnowitzer Promenade. Heutzutage
stehen sie einem breiteren Publikum offen, als
Restaurant oder als Unterkunft für Feriengäste. Diese
kommen gerne und das ganze Jahr, denn Zinnowitz
hält den deutschlandweiten Sonnenstunden-Rekord.
Glutrot taucht die Sonne am Morgen aus der Ostsee
auf und verabschiedet sich abends hinter den
Dünenwäldern.
The spa town of Zinnowitz on the Baltic seaboard looks
back on a 700-year history. But its development into an
attractive seaside resort did not start until 1851, when
bathing in the ocean was officially permitted by the authorities.
Salt water bathing had just become a fad, and
it was an instant hit among the guests who were spending
their summer vacations on the island.
In keeping with the times, gender-segregated bathing
areas were set up for gents and ladies. Moreover, a pier
was constructed and the kind of structures that were
to become the signature features of the famous resorts
on Germany’s Baltic seaboard: artfully ornamented mansions
overlooking the sea and a beachfront promenade
for locals and flaneurs alike.
To this day, the town thrives on the appeal of this beautiful
architecture. Painstakingly restored and maintained,
these architectural landmarks in the style of the imperial
spas still set the scene along the promenade of Zinnowitz.
They are now open to the wider public, either
as restaurant or holiday lodgings. Holidaymakers come
here year-round, because Zinnowitz gets more hours of
sunshine than any other town in Germany. Rising a fiery
red on the sea side in the morning, the sun sets behind
the dune forests in the evening.
