„Vorn die Ostsee, hinten die Friedrichstraße“, so beschrieb
der Dichter Tucholsky einst sein Ideal von
utopischer Bestlage. Usedom entspricht diesem
immerhin zur Hälfte. Doch trotz der Distanz von
180 Kilometern Luftlinie bezeichnen die Berliner Usedom
gerne als ihre Badewanne – und das seit Kaisers
Zeiten. Die Schönheit der Landschaft und die wohltuende
Weite zogen schon im frühen 19. Jahrhundert
den Hochadel und die feine Gesellschaft an. Seinerzeit
nahm die Kultur der Seebäder ihren Lauf. Die imposant-verspielte
Villenarchitektur jener Zeit prägt
bis heute das Bild entlang der Strandpromenaden von
Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf und Bansin, den sogenannten
Kaiserbädern. Zu diesen historischen Seeheilbädern
zählt auch der Küstenort Zinnowitz.
“Baltic Sea out front, Friedrichstrasse in the back,” the
poet Kurt Tucholsky once described his utopian ideal
of a prime spot. Usedom can make the first half of the
dream come true. And more than that, because it is only
180 kilometres from Berlin, and thus close enough to
earn it the moniker “Berlin’s bathtub” – coined during
the Belle Époque. The beauty of the landscape and its
soothing vastness already attracted the gentry and high
society in the early nineteenth century. It was then that
seaside resorts evolved as an institution. To this day, the
stately if playful architecture of the mansions built back
then sets the scene along the beachfront promenades
of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin, these being the socalled
imperial spas. The coastal town of Zinnowitz is
also one of the historic seaside spas.
