GAPEN’S

Fishing Tips:

FROM

HIMSELF!

WORKING RIVER WING DAMS

Reviewing a typical

wing dam you'll

note there are

numerous fish on

all regions of the

structure. Manmade

wing dams in

rivers are one of the

most productive

spots in a river an

angler can fish. Let's

give it a go as we

spot our fish targets

from above by

marking each fish's

position.

A) At 'A' we have

C) If northern pike or muskie exist on the wing dam structure you will find them at 'C'.

D) White Bass, a suspended species on the manmade submerged dam, can be found

at 'D' where they enjoy the benefit of being first to feed on the downstream passage of

minnow schools.

E) At 'E' in front of the structure you'll find a pair of large smallmouth bass, or at times

a largemouth bass or maybe a large flathead catfish.

Note: All the species from 'A' to 'E' MUST be fished from an above approach to meet success.

This you can do by anchoring upstream or by a slow stationary troll of your boat

which works your bait (side to side) across these positions of the dam.
