Flathead catfish will be found in the slower eddy water away from most of the others. If
there are gamefish along the shoreline of the eddy, they will be small.
Halfway between ‘B’ and ‘C’ sections there is an exposed rock. Look for trophy fish of any
kind to stage upstream from the rock while smallies hold to either side on the current
cuts. Walleye always stage where the boiling currents created by the rock straighten out as
indicated.
Finally we have our angler at section ‘C’. He has entered the river at a downstream point
and is working his way upstream. This is proper, proper to present your lure and to prevent
notice to the fish you seek. Turn back to page 130 and buy a couple of Dan’s River DVDs.

FISHING HISTORY
YOU MAY NOT KNOW
For Gapen’s In-line Spinner Anglers
NEPAG HISTORY:
The NEPAG is the original inline spinner lure which
was copied by John Hodak of the Paul Bunyan Bait Co.
in the 1950s and then recopied by the Erie Dearie Lure
Co. which became popular for walleye fishing on Lake
Erie in the late 1960s and 70s.
The original lure, created by my father, Don Gapen,
originator of the world-famous Muddler Fly, was first
made for brook trout on Lake Nipigon and its River
System in the early 40s. It soon became a lure that
enticed all species – walleye, pike, perch, trout and
bass.

redfish, sea trout, cobra, jacks, mackerel,
bonita, small tuna, amberjack and
even ‘cuda, it does an equal job on the
following freshwater fish – largemouth,
trout, walleye, white bass,
If you enjoy fishing with feathers here’s a deal
you can’t resist if you’re a trout, bass, walleye or
muskie angler. These same NEPAGS work
equally well on saltwater species such as redfish,
snook, weakfish, jacks, bonita, striper and most
saltwater bottom fish.

striper, northern pike, perch, smallies, muskie, and even crappie when
using the smaller sizes.
The NEPAG can hardly be attributed to any other lure company but
Gapens – for it was created by spelling our name backwards.
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
The new NEPAG is virtually snag free with its upward-riding hook. The head is
done in glow paint and the spinner blade is holographic. All these features enhance the
lure’s ability to entice gamefish both fresh and saltwater species.
