After a national search, Dr. Allen Goben<br />
assumed the Presidency of <strong>Heartland</strong><br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Dr. Goben becomes<br />
only the second President of the <strong>College</strong>,<br />
bringing with him a wealth of higher education<br />
leadership experience across the country.<br />
“<strong>Heartland</strong> has felt like a wonderful fit from<br />
the very beginning, and I’m excited about the<br />
opportunity to be engaged in and involved with<br />
such a fantastic community and its <strong>College</strong>,”<br />
Dr. Goben said.<br />
Dr. Goben, 43, came to <strong>Heartland</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> after serving as president/CEO of<br />
Hazard <strong>Community</strong> and Technical <strong>College</strong><br />
(HCTC) in Kentucky, specializing in student<br />
success initiatives, strategic institutional<br />
prioritization, resource development and fiscal<br />
stewardship, and community outreach with a<br />

distinctive focus on diversity and engagement.<br />
Under his leadership, HCTC was named one of<br />
the “Best Places to Work in Kentucky” in the<br />
large employer category and further honored<br />
as one of the Chronicle of Higher Education’s<br />
“Great <strong>College</strong>s to Work For <strong>2010</strong>.” In addition,<br />
Dr. Goben is a national expert on technological<br />
applications for higher education development,<br />
formerly serving as senior executive for Higher<br />
Education Development with SAS Institute,<br />
the world’s largest privately held software<br />
company.<br />
A native lowan and alumni of Indian Hills<br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> and Iowa Central<br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>, Dr. Goben earned a<br />
Bachelor of Science degree in History from Iowa<br />
State University (1993), a Master of Science<br />
in Education degree in school counseling<br />
from Drake University (1999), and a Doctor of<br />
Education degree in Educational Administration<br />
from the top nationally ranked <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> Leadership Program (CCLP) at The<br />
University of Texas at Austin (2003). In <strong>2009</strong>,<br />
he earned distinguished graduate status from<br />
the nationally prominent CCLP program.<br />
