Enthusiasm. Collaboration. Success. Community colleges are unique. They create accessible and affordable opportunities for achievement among students of all ages, backgrounds and interests. Supportive local partnerships allow community colleges to explore innovative concepts while guiding academic, personal and cultural initiatives. Most importantly, community colleges provide a path to success for people throughout the region. Our college is thrilled to support progress in individual lives as well as across our many thriving communities. It’s been an exhilarating year at Heartland. We’ve experienced the College’s first-ever presidential transition and celebrated the completion of our strategic College Development Plan. Enhancements to Heartland’s Normal campus include additional instructional facilities, a Student Center addition, an expanded Heartland Cafe and a new student bookstore. The Astroth Community Education Center and Fitness and Recreation Center are also complete, expanding Heartland’s ability to support access to higher education and excellence in teaching and learning with an enhanced focus on student and community success. The Challenger Learning Center is supporting K-12 schools and businesses from our Normal campus. The Corn Crib at Heartland Community College has given our student-athletes a home while bringing professional baseball to the heart of our district. Our Lincoln and Pontiac Centers continue to enthusiastically serve Logan and Livingston County residents. The College also embraced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase 96 acres of land adjacent to our existing Normal campus. This will help us plan thoughtful, incremental growth as we respond to the emerging needs of our growing and thriving community. Heartland Community College has been hard at work to ensure we offer the most up-to-date programs, services and resources in 21st Century education. As we approach HCC’s 20th anniversary, we appreciate the opportunity to share our 2009-10 Annual Report, and to once again feature the people, events and success stories that define Heartland’s unique role in our community and in the world we share. It is an honor to join our community, where Heartland value and commitment to learning success support personal and regional progress. JOIN US IN CELEBRATING STUDENT SUCCESS! Heartland Community College is an engine for shared success, continuing to produce quality graduates and workforce-ready employees that will serve the Central Illinois community for years to come. More than 720 students successfully completed a degree or certificate program at Heartland during the 2009-10 academic year. They join a group of 8,600 students who have earned a degree or certificate from the College. These are the same students who share their skills, unique talents and knowledge with our community as health care providers, safety officers, environmental strategists, educators, business leaders and community supporters, among others. Ninety percent of Heartland graduates live, work and raise their families in Illinois. This retention adds dexterity to our workforce, invigorating industry and encouraging economic growth. With an increased income, Heartland graduates also stimulate local commerce, helping the cycle come full-circle while simultaneously renewing the Central Illinois workforce. Clearly, student success is shared success…and that idea is celebrated at Heartland Community College every day. CORPORATE EDUCATION SPURS AREA BUSINESSES TO PROSPERITY A thriving community college is an incentive to businesses interested in a location with affordable, quality educational options. These opportunities abound at HCC, serving employer needs for entry-level employees as well as ongoing workforce training. Heartland Community College’s Corporate Education Department provides comprehensive support, offering employee training that enhances regional economic well-being and occupational outlook. From July 2009 to June 2010, the College’s Corporate Education Department assisted more than 50 organizations with customized training to meet their unique business needs. Our qualified instructors administered cost-effective employee training solutions and provided clients with the kind of proof-of-impact results that excite and energize business leaders across our district and state. Corporate Education at Heartland remains a vital instrument in the Central Illinois economy, galvanizing employees and guiding organizations to positive, productive futures.
