create your own calm
by Becky Goddard-Hill
West Bridgford
author and children’s
therapist Becky
Goddard-Hill has
recently published a
new activity book for
kids aged 6-12 and it
comes with a twist.
Create Your Own Calm
is the perfect book for
kids who sometimes
get overwhelmed or anxious. As well as keeping them
entertained for hours with a variety of fun activities
it also teaches them some important life skills. The
50 activities in Create Your Own Calm are designed
to help kids manage their worries, anger, fears and
stress. It couldn’t be been more timely. Kids have
been struggling.
During lockdown Childline reported a 40% increase in
calls from under 11’s who were finding life tricky. In
these unusual times kids need a little help managing
their emotional health.
Activities included in the book aim to help kids feel
calmer and think more clearly. They include bread
making, nature crafting, grounding, yoga, positivity,
gardening, making worry dolls and lots, lots more.
Because kids love to know HOW things work Becky
has also included a little scientific explanation with
each activity. Topics include how to have calmer
relationships, how to calm yourself down, and how to
put calm out into the world.
Who doesn’t want to help their kids feel more relaxed
and in control?
Developing robust emotional health skills as a child
will help them navigate those tricky teen years to
come and it makes a wonderful gift.
Create Your 0wn Calm is published by Harper Collins
and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and
Independent Book Stores.
Peter
Mcconnochie
has published
an exciting book
documenting the
people who make
Nottingham the
amazing city
it is.
Peter is a
started as a teenager when his father, who was a
wedding photographer, bought him his first 35mm
SLR camera.
In 2013 Peter started UrbanScot photography and
now balances his time between educational stratgey
and running a photography business specialising in
weddings and portraits.
Charged with capturing the essence of Nottingham,
Peter has turned his camera on its inhabitants; the
shop keepers, school teachers, buskers, nurses,
students and street performers, all of them taking
pleasure in being part of this vibrant city and sharing
their stories.
As a Nottingham resident, Peter knows the city’s
streets and squares and its lanes and back alleys
and spent his time documenting street scenes and
making portraits of strangers, talking and connecting
with them.
This is a book about Nottingham and what makes it
such a great city.
