Hunting down imitation ECCO shoes<br />
Awareness of the ECCO brand is increasing<br />
by the minute, and one of the effects is,<br />
unfortunately, that it is becoming more<br />
and more popular to copy ECCO shoes.<br />
Therefore ECCO has been busy in <strong>2009</strong><br />
investigating and tracing shipments<br />
of imitation shoes.<br />
Most raids took place in China, which is<br />
the main country for shoe piracy. ECCO<br />
has an excellent collaboration with the<br />

Chinese customs authorities who check the<br />
containers leaving China. On seven occasions<br />
during the year they have stopped the export<br />
of imitation shoes.<br />
Another example was in April <strong>2009</strong>, when<br />
the German customs authorities discovered<br />
22,000 pairs of poor quality, Chinese copies<br />
of ECCO shoes in a container in the port of<br />
Hamburg. The shipment came from China by<br />
sea and was intended to enter the Russian<br />
market by lorry. ECCO seized the shipment<br />
and was then able to destroy the 22,000<br />
pairs of imitation shoes.<br />
In total, ECCO confiscated around 65,000<br />
pairs of imitation shoes and soles in <strong>2009</strong>.
