PN42414 Mays Hill: Police searching for man after unprovoked attack Police are searching for the perpetrators of a random unprovoked attack in Mays Hill recently. About 4.15pm on Wednesday, December 2, a 25-year-old Mays Hill man left his workplace in Wigram Street, Harris Park on foot. After turning left onto Church Street, a small silver vehicle sounded its horn and came to a stop outside 6-8 Lennox Street with two unknown males exiting the vehicle. One approached the man and punched him to the right side of his face before returning to the vehicle and driving off, leaving the victim injured on the side of the road. Police and ambulance attended a short time later and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. Parramatta: Driver to learn fate on drink driving charge in January A Toongabbie local will face court early next year after being caught driving under the influence in Parramatta recently. About 10.35pm on Saturday, November 28, police stopped a blue Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Marsden Street and the Great Western Highway, Parramatta for the purpose of a random breath test. The 31-year-old Toongabbie driver returned a positive reading. The driver was arrested and conveyed to Parramatta Police Station, where further breath analysis returned a midrange reading. The driver had their licence suspended and was issued with a court attendance notice for ‘drive with mid-range PCA’. They are due to appear before the Parramatta Local Court on Friday, January 22. Parramatta: Multiple charges after dramatic arrest A woman who bit a police officer Master Electricians Australia (MEA) is urging home owners to check the safety of their Christmas lights installations, following a spate of electrical fires across the country. At least two of the fires, in Brisbane and Adelaide, are believed to have been caused by festive light displays, while faulty electrical fittings have contributed to other fires. MEA Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Richards said a house fire was tragic at any time of year, but there was a heightened risk of fire at Christmas time. “Christmas lights displays bring so much happiness to families and to neighbourhoods, but as well as being festive they also need to be safe,” Mr Richards said. “Already this summer we’ve seen a number of tragedies where families POLICE SNAPSHOT Compiled by Nicola Barton during her arrest in Parramatta has fronted court. Officers from Auburn Police Area Command were called to a car rental business on Parramatta Road about 6.50am on Thursday, December 3, responding to reports a woman was attempting to steal a vehicle. On arrival, police found a 22-yearold woman in the driver’s seat of a V8 Commodore. The woman refused to leave before she was removed from the car by police, biting an officer to the forearm and kicking another in the leg during the process. The bitten officer was taken to Auburn Hospital for treatment and a tetanus shot. The woman was taken to Auburn Police Station where she has been charged with nine offences including ‘assault police occasioning actual bodily harm’, two counts of ‘assault police’, three counts of ‘resist police officer in the execution of duty’, two counts of ‘attempt steal motor vehicle’, and ‘enter enclosed land prescribed premises without lawful excuse’. The woman was refused bail and appeared at Burwood Local Court. Carlingford: Man taken to hospital after pipe explodes A 39-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after the pipe he was pressure testing exploded at Carlingford recently. CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance shortly after 12.15pm on Wednesday, December 2 and landed 15 minutes later by the scene of the incident where NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment. CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the man. The worker was intubated and Care- Flight’s clinical team placed him in an induced coma to stabilise him. The man was taken by road with NSW Ambulance under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition. Enough is enough – we don’t want to see lives lost as well.” The safety checklist includes: • Ensuring lights and other appliance have an Australian approval number • Having safety switches on all circuits in your home • Only using designated outdoor electrical products outside the home • Not using double adapters on power boards • Having working smoke detectors • Checking appliances and cables for damage before using them. “If you go to the effort of decorating your house for Christmas, please go to the extra effort of a quick Internet check to ensure you and your family are as safe as possible,” Mr Richards said.
