Building Bridges/Cuentos Y Puentes is our brand new, first-ever bilingual book! With stories in both English and Spanish, this book is the product of a collaboration between nine students in Toronto and nine students from Colombia. Facilitated by a partnership between Story Planet and the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, this project reminded us that stories truly do bring us together. Along with each story in two languages, this book includes 'postcards' in which the students filled out to send to their Cuentamigo (story pal) to get to know each other more!

We believe that words are magic and that<br />
stories have power. We believe that writing<br />
and reading stories are acts that touch and<br />
transform us, inviting us to see our world with<br />
new eyes, as well as to explore other possible<br />
worlds. In times of pandemia and social<br />
isolation, we believe stories are bridges that<br />
allow us to cross the ocean and know other<br />
cultures, visit other world visions, make new<br />
friends and get together to imagine a happy<br />
world.<br />
In August 2020, twenty elementary school<br />
students in Canada and Colombia came<br />
together for a collaborative story writing<br />
project called <strong>Building</strong> <strong>Bridges</strong>/<strong>Cuentos</strong> y<br />
<strong>Puentes</strong>. Aided by Story Planet facilitators and<br />
student-teachers from Universidad Pedagógica<br />
y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC), the twenty<br />
young writers imagined, shared, and created<br />
together—and, by the end, invented a new<br />
word: cuentamigo, or story pal. The following<br />
twenty stories are the fruits of these new story<br />
friendships.<br />
