Building Bridges/Cuentos Y Puentes

Building Bridges/Cuentos Y Puentes is our brand new, first-ever bilingual book! With stories in both English and Spanish, this book is the product of a collaboration between nine students in Toronto and nine students from Colombia. Facilitated by a partnership between Story Planet and the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, this project reminded us that stories truly do bring us together. Along with each story in two languages, this book includes 'postcards' in which the students filled out to send to their Cuentamigo (story pal) to get to know each other more!

“How are we going to do that?” Lily said
in a very confused voice.
“I have a plan!” Trum said in a mysterious
voice.
Trum leaned in to go whisper in Lily’s
ears. Trum leaned back and Lily said,
“That’s a good plan!” Then they started
laughing mysteriously for no reason.
When recess was done, Lily and Trum
both faked to their teachers that they
got hurt and had to be sent to the principal’s
office. When they were outside the
principal’s door, they stopped faking and
knocked politely. They opened the door
and saw the principal doing work.
“Hello there students!” the principal
said.
“Hi there,” Lily said in a very nice voice.
“Um, we were just wondering if you
could switch my class into Trum’s?”
“We just need to be in the same class
this year for all the group projects because
we have this disease that makes
us unable to work well when we’re not
together,” Trum said.
After saying that, they both made their
puppy faces.
“Students, you know I can’t switch the
classes. The classes are perfect so maybe
you will get in the same class next year,”
the principal said. “Now head to your
classes before I tell your teachers you
snuck out!”
Lily and Trum sadly walked back up the
stairs to different classes.
Usually in the summer, Lily and Trum
would spend time together, but this
summer they didn’t. This year they spent
it with the new friends they had made. If
they saw each other in the store, all they
would do is wave—they wouldn’t even
talk. They weren’t in a fight or anything;
it was just that they haven’t been spending
time with each other.
When middle school came around and
it was the first day of grade 7, Trum and
Lily separately went to go check whose
class they were going to be in. Trum was
in Ms. Brookeland’s class and so was Lily!
When they entered the class, they saw
each other in the same class. They didn’t
think much of it since they were not
spending much time together. But during
the year, they started talking and playing
outside together, so it seemed like they
were friends again.
One day in middle school, Lily and Trum
were hanging out together at El Centro
Comercial and buying the cool new
glasses. But then...there was a siren going
in El Centro Comercial. “What’s happening?”
Lily screamed. “I don’t know!”
Trum said.
Then there was an announcement going
on. “Everyone, this is a fire drill. Everyone
evacuate from El Centro Comercial
immediately!”
Lily and Trum ran together to go to the
exit. When they saw the door and they
were going to leave, Lily tripped and
Trum didn’t notice. Then Lily screamed,
“Help! My wing got stuck in this chair!”
Trum heard and ran back to go help Lily.
It was super hard to get her wing out of
the chair since there were many chairs
stacked together, but Trum managed to
get Lily’s wing out of the chair and help
her out. They both ran as quick as the
