Building Bridges/Cuentos Y Puentes

Building Bridges/Cuentos Y Puentes is our brand new, first-ever bilingual book! With stories in both English and Spanish, this book is the product of a collaboration between nine students in Toronto and nine students from Colombia. Facilitated by a partnership between Story Planet and the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, this project reminded us that stories truly do bring us together. Along with each story in two languages, this book includes 'postcards' in which the students filled out to send to their Cuentamigo (story pal) to get to know each other more!

MY STORY
by Valencia
are talking, Blossom has a great idea.
“I’m going to make Willow class
president. This should make her feel
better,” says Blossom. She then glows in
her basket, working her magic.
All of a sudden, the principal says,
“Willow you are now class President.”
class. What’s worse, Blossom isn’t here
to make her happy again.
At recess, Willow goes outside on the
playground and sits by herself on a
bench. Three friends, Darian, Torian, and
Xilena, see Willow at a distance all by
herself.
Chapter 1
One bright, sunny evening Willow gets
ready for school. First, she has breakfast
with her family, brushes her teeth, then
puts on her clothes. On that day she
wears a blue dress with purple sandals.
She brushes her long, straight, orchard
brown hair and styles it in two buns.
Willow lives in a brown house in a
neighborhood where there are a lot of
nice houses with big backyards and busy
streets. Not many people are out in the
evening time, however.
Willow leaves her house and walks to
the bunny cave to get her bunny friend,
Blossom. Blossom’s cave is a tiny little
rock that opens up into a very big cave
when Willow passes by. Blossom comes
out to Willow, who puts Blossom in her
basket. The basket is made of sugar cone
and colourful sprinkles with chocolate
ice-cream dripping down the sides. Once
Blossom fits snugly into her basket, they
both go to the bus stop to wait for the
magic flying school bus. When the bus
arrives at the bus stop, Willow steps up
into the bus.
“Hello,” Willow says to Mr. Hightower,
the driver.
Mr. Hightower doesn’t respond to
Willow. He is a mean driver. Willow is
sad. She walks to the back of the bus and
sits with Blossom in her basket beside
her. The bus pulls up by the magic school
and hovers by the bus stop. Quickly, all
the children jump off the bus. Willow
gets off the bus last. She is still sad that
Mr. Hightower didn’t say hello to her.
She doesn’t want to speak to anyone, so
she sits outside and waits for the school
bell to ring.
When the bell rings, the principal waits
for Willow in the school hallway. He
calls out to Willow and walks with her to
the office. Blossom peeks through the
basket. While Willow and the principal
Willow is excited. She runs out of the
room. She hugs Blossom. Blossom
winks at Willow. Blossom is happy
that Willow is happy. The school bell
rings and it’s time for Willow to get
to class. She puts Blossom in her
locker. Willow runs as fast as she
can to her class and gets there
just as the last bell rings. When
she steps into the classroom,
everyone is staring at Willow.
The teacher, Miss Purell, tells
Willow to introduce herself.
“Hi, I’m Willow and I’d like to
be friends with all of you!”
Willow says excitedly.
No one is happy about that.
The girls are jealous because
Willow is super duper cute
and looks really nice in
her dress. The boys don’t
really care. No one realizes
that Willow is also the class
president. Everyone ignores
Willow, and the teacher moves
on with the lesson. Again, Willow
is sad and sits at the back of the
