Bad Times are Good for Spiritual Work<br />

Despite the Lockdown lunacy and unprecedented<br />

travel restrictions of <strong>2020</strong>, we managed to adapt,<br />

persevere and remain productive. By responding<br />

decisively to the revolutionary agenda advanced in<br />

the name of combatting a virus, I received many<br />

international radio and TV interview opportunities<br />

through an array of online platforms, including<br />

Audacity, Pod bean, Skype, WeTransfer and Zoom.<br />

Digital Evangelism and Discipleship<br />

Although our cross-border Missions to Zimbabwe,<br />

Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya<br />

and Sudan had to be put on hold during the<br />

enforced lockdowns, our Mission was as busy and<br />

productive as ever. As millions have migrated to<br />

Cape Town from all over Africa, we conducted over 200 outreaches within the Cape Peninsula. People from closed<br />

countries such as Saudi Arabia and Somalia<br />

are being evangelised and discipled in Cape<br />

Town. We greatly increased our online<br />

ministry, making available hundreds of<br />

tracts, articles and other Evangelistic and<br />

Discipleship resources digitally. 29 of<br />

my books are now available as E-books.<br />

Numerous of our Manuals and Handbooks<br />

are now available as Free PDF’s online.<br />

Muslim Evangelism Online<br />

By God’s grace, the www.TheMessageofNabiIsa.org website is operational, reaching Muslims for Christ. Based on the<br />

lifelong work of Missionary to Muslims, Gerhard Nehls, a long-time friend of our Mission, this website is designed to<br />

explain the Gospel to Muslims in both video and PowerPoint format. Colin designed the website and Hunter finished<br />

the video editing. The website also includes Dear Abdullah (correspondence designed by Gerhard Nehls to interact with<br />

Muslims and guide them, step by step, to understand the teachings of the Bible and to answer frequently asked questions).<br />

This website also includes a copy of the Injil (The Gospels of our Lord Jesus Christ). This is a wonderful online resource<br />

for evangelising and reaching Muslims with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, in a way that is culturally appropriate and<br />

specifically designed to reach Muslims. This website and video have the potential to reach many hundreds of thousands<br />

of Muslims worldwide. Please share it with your Muslim neighbours, friends and contacts, or share with others that<br />

you are in correspondence with, or who live in communities where there are Muslims. “All the ends of the world shall<br />

remember and turn to the Lord and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For the Kingdom is the<br />

Lord’s and He rules over the nations.” Psalm 22:27-28<br />

Free Digital Library Programme<br />

Our popular Library Programme has provided<br />

basic Discipleship Libraries for hundreds of<br />

pastors, teachers, chaplains, evangelists, students<br />

and prisoners throughout Africa, for decades.<br />

Now, since this year, we are able to offer this free<br />

Digital Library Programme to anyone online.<br />

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God,<br />

a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly<br />

dividing the Word of Truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15<br />

New Videos<br />

Christopher produced a fast-moving Literature4Africa video, documenting the offloading of two container shipments on<br />

the same day, during the first day of level 4 Lockdown. Volunteer from KwaZulu, Ndumiso, produced Bibles for Africa;<br />

Life Chain <strong>2020</strong>; Home Education and Christmas in Africa video documentaries, which involve numerous interviews<br />

and provide visual insights and inspiration for these ministries. We uploaded another 113 additional videos onto our<br />

Vimeo channel this year. Most of those being lectures of mine from our Biblical Worldview Summit, Great Commission<br />

Course, Home Education events and weekly Reformation Society lectures.<br />

New Audio Sermons and Lecturers<br />

We have also uploaded another 104 sermons and lectures onto our Sermon Audio page, which now has 919 messages<br />

available online. Most of these are Reformation Society lectures and Livingstone Fellowship<br />

sermons of mine. We now have over 202,000 listeners on our Sermon Audio channel.<br />

This year, we uploaded 32 new PowerPoints onto SlideShare, making a total of 272 of my<br />

presentations available online. Total views and downloads were 109,000 this year. “I charge<br />

French and German Films on Nuba Mountain Mission Now Available<br />

By God’s grace, Congolese volunteer, Alpha, enabled<br />

us to produce a French translation of our Missions<br />

to the Nuba Mountains of Sudan film. Lenora, her<br />

sister Deborah and Christopher, completed a German<br />

translation of this film, which is also available online.<br />

This year we uploaded 50 podcasts and now have<br />

a total of 145 podcasts, which received over 4,595<br />

downloads of our From the Frontline podcasts.<br />

IT Development<br />

Our IT Manager, Roelf, reports that our network cable was upgraded to CAT6 with Fibre back links, bandwidth<br />

monitoring, sites scope monitoring of websites and an additional 10 terabyte storage created for our Synology backups.<br />

The Pioneers Network Studio is now fully operational with networking for radio and video recording, as well as<br />

live streaming. New digital strategies have been explored and alternative<br />

platforms to bypass censorship online, established. “See then that you walk<br />

circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the<br />

days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of<br />

the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17<br />

Social Media Ministry<br />

Frontline Fellowship actively manages over 20 Facebook pages with over<br />

114,000,000 impressions/hits/visits over the last year. This included a<br />

total reach of 71,721,975 people (users), who had content from our pages<br />

enter on their screens. Total engaged users: 14,039,728. Post engagements<br />

(comments, reactions, likes and shares): 29,375,904.<br />

Frontline Fellowship reached 4,566,597 people (unique users),<br />

with 10,981,272 impressions/hits. Total engaged users: 576,488. Post<br />

engagements: 1,354,034.<br />

Memorial and The Cape Republic. The statistics from these sites have not yet been calculated for this past year.<br />

Literature4Africa<br />

During <strong>2020</strong>, Literature4Africa received over<br />

93 tonnes of resources, through 5 container<br />

shipments, 4 of which were 20-foot containers<br />

and one a 40-foot container. Literature4Africa<br />

received for free distribution: 22,930 Bibles;<br />

50,160 Theological and library books; 30,660<br />

children’s Sunday school booklets and manuals;<br />

122,000 tracts; 2,160 Chapel Library booklets;<br />

72,000 Gospel of John and Epistle of Romans<br />

booklets; 86,400 youth/adult group Bible study<br />

packs, magazines and devotional booklets; 23,100<br />

Bible study books; 42,000 Open Windows, Daily<br />

Bread and Upper Room devotionals; 5,640 other<br />

items, such as family Bible memorization cards,<br />

Discipleship booklets; 12,722 DVDs and CDs and 2,048,000 World Missionary Press Gospel booklets. This makes a total<br />

of 2,518,172 Scriptural, evangelistic and discipleship items received from overseas sponsors during <strong>2020</strong>. During this<br />

year we distributed 62 tonnes. On 10 December, we loaded another 20 of<br />

the remaining 44 tonnes of resources in our stores for transportation to<br />

churches in Zambia. Four container shipments came from Eagles Nest/<br />

Love Packages. One 40-foot container came from World Missionary<br />

Press. Operation Mobilisation, Special Projects sponsored a tonne of<br />

Bibles in indigenous African languages (total of 932 Bibles). Trinitarian<br />

Bible Society also sponsored us Bibles and New Testaments. All of<br />

these were freely distributed throughout Africa. Pastors described<br />

these resources from Literature4Africa as “an amazing treasure”; “a gold<br />

mine” and “more than gold.” You can view the Literature4Africa <strong>Report</strong><br />

More than 100 Million Church Goers in South Africa Do Not Yet Have a Bible<br />

Operation World informs us that there are 500 million people who identify as Christians in Africa. Over 100 Million<br />

church-goers in Africa do not yet have a copy of a Bible, or even a New Testament. The needs are great, the opportunities<br />

are huge and urgent. You can view Bibles for Africa and Literature4Africa videos online. “So, then faith comes by<br />

hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17<br />

Christian Liberty Books – 25 Years<br />

To mark 25 years of providing resources for Reformation and Revival and textbooks for Home educators, we completed<br />

a visual tour of our Christian Liberty Bookshop.<br />

Launched in July 1995, Christian Liberty Books<br />

(CLB) is a non-profit Christian ministry, dedicated<br />

to fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus<br />

Christ by providing quality Bible-based resources<br />

for Home Education, Missions, Evangelism,<br />

Christian History, Creation Science, Reformation<br />

and Revival. Our bookshop in Rondebosch stocks<br />

over 6,000 titles of books, teaching manuals and<br />

audio-visual resources. Most of our materials<br />

are imported from trusted publishers overseas,<br />

but we have also produced over 100 titles inhouse.<br />

As a Missionary bookshop, CLB, from<br />

the very beginning, has been deeply involved<br />

in promoting Home Education in South Africa.<br />

CLB has donated many thousands of our books to<br />

Bible colleges, Missions, Ministries and churches<br />

throughout Africa. CLB is fully involved in the<br />

pro-life, pro-family movement, participating in<br />

Life Chains, the March for Life, outreaches in<br />

shopping malls and Boxes with Love to destitute<br />

prisoners and pensioners in Zimbabwe. CLB is<br />

also fully involved in the Biblical Worldview Summits and Reformation 500 Coalition on Revival movement. If you<br />

CLB Best Sellers in <strong>2020</strong><br />

CLB Best Sellers in <strong>2020</strong> were the Old Testament Survey and New Testament Survey. Other very popular books were<br />

Stephen Mitford Goodson’s biographies on Hendrik Verwoerd and General Jan Smuts. The Security and Survival<br />

Handbook and Sketches from South African History were also popular. The vast majority of CLB sales are Home<br />

Education textbooks and manuals.<br />

Great Commission Course and Biblical Worldview Summit<br />

The first part of the 3-week Great Commission Course (GCC) was the week-long Biblical Worldview Summit (BWS)<br />

where over 80 participants came from as far afield as the Congo, Kenya, Zimbabwe and the USA. To get an idea of<br />

what was involved in the Great Commission Course this year, it involved: 15 speakers; 60 lectures/presentations; 29<br />

worship and Bible Drill sessions; 23 films, including all eight of the Way of the Master Basic Evangelism Training Course;<br />

10 workshops; 9 Just a Minute Debating/Public Speaking Skills games; 5 hikes, including night hike Bible smuggling<br />

simulation infiltration and exfiltration hikes with backpacks of Arabic Scriptures, in the dark, across rivers and in<br />

complete silence, a Lions Head hike and the Table Mountain hike. It also involved a Work Party at a local mission<br />

station; radio recordings; Dragon Boating team building in Table Bay Harbour; 17 energetic P.T. sessions; 10 written<br />

assignments and 7 exams.<br />

Momentous Milestones<br />

This year, we celebrated my 60 th birthday; 20 years since the great<br />

Penguin Rescue Operation; 40 years since the Grahamstown<br />

Evangelistic Mission, 25 years of broadcasting Salt & Light on Radio<br />

Tygerberg and 25 years since the launch of Christian Liberty Books.<br />

2021 will mark 30 years of Africa Christian Action.<br />

We had to say Good Bye to four great, stalwart friends of Frontline<br />

worldwide. The William Carey Bible Institute is<br />

a Reformed, Evangelistic, Biblical and practical<br />

Leadership Training Programme. The WCBI<br />

Reformation to Remotest Regions<br />

Originally designed to provide online resources for Persecuted<br />

Christians in Restricted Access Areas, WCBI is pleased<br />

particularly in this time when so many are restricted in<br />

travel. WCBI is ideal for home educators, missionaries and<br />

Bibles for Africa<br />

Despite Lockdown restrictions on travel, we managed to<br />

organise for Bible deliveries in indigenous African languages,<br />

including: Bemba, Chichewa, Moru, Ndebele, Shangaan,<br />

Shona, Xhosa and Zulu, to trusted pastors and evangelists<br />

in Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and<br />

Sudan.<br />

Webinars, Zoom Conferences and Church Planting<br />

We also took part in Webinars and conference events by<br />

Zoom. I travelled up the West coast to a remote area to<br />

conduct services and assist in a church planting project.<br />

March to Parliament<br />

We participated in a March to Parliament to protest against government complicity in farm murders and terrorism. I<br />

was asked to address the marchers at the gates of parliament and numerous radio and TV interviews followed up this<br />

event.<br />

Outreaches<br />

We distributed tens-of-thousands of tracts and Gospel booklets in outreaches in and around Cape Town during<br />

Women’s Day and for International Life Chain Sunday. Our missionaries conducted regular outreaches in least reached<br />

areas throughout the Cape Peninsula. We have engaged in over 200 outreaches this year, including on local university<br />

campuses, in Muslim neighbourhoods, door-to-door evangelism, street ministry, open air preaching, outside abortuarys,<br />

in shopping centres, at railway stations, at bus and taxi ranks, at hospitals, in parks and in prisons. Hunter organised and<br />

led 90 outreaches and developed 31 relationships of regular ongoing evangelism and discipleship. Hunter also led 38<br />

Bible studies, 5 workshops and 26 sermons, presentations and radio programmes.<br />

Leadership Training Workshops<br />

We organised and hosted Leadership Training Seminars and Workshops, including for Professor Krabbendam on<br />

Evangelism. We conducted Biblical Interpretation Workshops for lay-preachers. We hosted a very successful Home<br />

Education Fair on Reformation Day. This also included a Reformation Art and Essay Competition and Variety Concert.<br />

Articles, Sermons, Correspondence, Lectures and Radio & TV Ministry<br />

My secretary, Marion, informs me that in the last year, she has typed 608 of my letters, 58 articles, 17 sermons, 8 Prayer<br />

and Praise Updates, 4 Tributes, 5 articles for Covenant Nations, 5 articles for The Bellringer, 5 articles for The Rhosarian,<br />

8 articles for The Fish Eagle and 39 lectures for the Reformation Society. She sent 212 of my emails for Frontline<br />

The Reformation Society<br />

Aside from the five weeks of hard lockdown level 5,<br />

the Reformation Society met every Thursday night of<br />

the year, experiencing steady growth, as we tackled<br />

Churches on Lockdown<br />

Most churches in South Africa have not yet been able to reconvene Sunday worship services since the Lockdown<br />

was enforced from 26 March. This is because most congregations in our country do not have their own building, but<br />

depend on public venues, such as schools, town halls, scouts and girl guide halls. Under Lockdown regulations, these are<br />

forbidden to allow churches to meet during the dragged-out lockdown. This has left many frustrated over the failure of<br />

their local congregation to meet, minister and worship together. Many have come to Literature4Africa for literature and<br />

audio visual resources, to enable them to conduct home fellowship services.<br />

Livingstone House Building Project<br />

Throughout <strong>2020</strong>, we have been in the process of converting our attic at our Mission Headquarters into a multi-purpose<br />

hall (Upper Room – Bathman Memorial Hall) and extra accommodation. This has been long overdue as we have had<br />

to accommodate missionaries and guests in tents. There are many volunteers who would gladly work at our Mission, if<br />

we can provide accommodation. Now, by God’s grace and the generosity of Lenora who has put her entire inheritance<br />

from her parents, Rev. Bill and Harriett Bathman, into the Livingstone House Building Project, we also have four more<br />

bedrooms, a kitchenette, Pioneers Network Studio and a Comms/IT Workshop. We have also expanded our Men’s dorm.<br />

Since Reformation Day, the Upper Room has been used for Thursday night Reformation Society meetings and this year<br />

we were able to celebrate Thanksgiving in the Upper Room. For over a month, our regular radio recordings have been<br />

recorded in the Pioneers Network Studio, which is named after two of the Missions which Bill Bathman founded:<br />

Pioneers and Network. “The Lord has done great things for us and we are glad.” Psalm 126:3<br />

Back to the Bible Biblical Interpretation Course<br />

Hunter hosted a series of Biblical Interpretation Workshops at our Mission house with lay-preachers, pastors, teachers<br />

and evangelists who were given homework assignments to complete and were equipped with basic tools for rightly<br />

interpreting the Scriptures, understanding the historical background and importance of context in order to compile<br />

exegetical sermons. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed,<br />

rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15<br />

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted<br />

For 30 years, Frontline Fellowship has been working, along with other missions to the persecuted<br />

worldwide, to promote IDOP. This is the largest prayer movement for the persecuted, focused on mobilising<br />

congregations to observe a Day of Prayer for the Persecuted, on the second Sunday in November each<br />

year. Frontline Fellowship runs the www.idop-africa.org website and we invite believers to join Christians<br />

throughout the world in praying with and for the Persecuted, providing them with news, articles,<br />

resources, PowerPoints, links, videos and contacts to enable them to mobilise friends, family, co-workers, congregations<br />

and community, to prayer and action on behalf<br />

of those who are persecuted for the Faith. Over<br />

400 million Christians live in the 67 countries of<br />

the world which severely restrict, or persecute,<br />

believers. “Remember the prisoners as if chained<br />

with them – those who are mistreated – since you<br />

yourselves are in the body also.” Hebrews 13:3<br />

War Against Historic Monuments<br />

The Frankfurt School of Cultural Marxism declared their intention to break every tie of blood, soil, nation, race, religion<br />

and allegiance, through the Gramsci Strategy, the Termite Strategy, of eroding the heart and soul of Christian civilisation<br />

in preparation for Marxist Revolution. This is plainly what is behind the cancel culture targeting of historic monuments.<br />

When vandals decapitated the bust of Cecil John Rhodes in Cape Town, I took this as an opportunity to expose the<br />

Marxist agenda and teach on The Importance of Monuments and The Legacy of Cecil John Rhodes. Through letters to the<br />

Editor, on radio programmes, at public meetings and on social media, the battle raged and I was able to reach far more<br />

people by spring boarding off this act of vandalism than one could possibly reach through normal means. We helped<br />

launch Friends of Rhodes Memorial, retrieved the head of the monument and campaigned to restore the monument.<br />

When we met with intransigence by a political appointee, we launched the Friends of Rhodes Memorial website and<br />

Facebook page and a Petition. Pressure built and in response we received authorisation from South African National<br />

Parks to, at our own expense, restore the monument. Within the week, just in time for Heritage Day, the monument<br />

was completely restored and a team of volunteers arrived to give a spring clean to this popular tourist attraction and<br />

imposing monument with its eight imperial lions and the powerful energy horse monument, where Easter sunrise<br />

services are regularly celebrated. We sang the Hymn: He Who Would Valiantly Be and prayed. We also engaged in open<br />

air preaching to visitors of the monument.<br />

Rhodesia Ministry<br />

As Chairman for the Flame Lily Foundation – Cape Peninsula (FLF-CP), I serve as Chaplain<br />

for the Rhodesia Remembrance Services, Editor of The Fish Eagle and now contributing<br />

Editor to the Rhosarian Magazine. We have regular monthly meetings in Fish Hoek and I<br />

was heavily involved in the battle over Rhodes Memorial, which was vandalised. Through<br />

the efforts of Friends of Rhodes Memorial, which we helped start, the memorial was fully<br />

restored in time for Heritage Day. FLF-CP is also involved in helping Rhodesian pensioners<br />

and preserving the heritage of Rhodesia. To this end, we have begun a Rhodesia Heritage<br />

Library at Livingstone House. We also contribute regularly to the Rhodesians Worldwide<br />

magazine and Reclaiming Rhodesia.<br />

Cape Independence Movement<br />

This year, I was also asked to start the Cape Independence Forum. I regularly chair<br />

meetings by Zoom with different role players working for self-determination, secession<br />

and independence for a Free and Independent Cape of Good Hope. To this end, I have<br />

produced a number of articles and presentations, including: A Case for Cape Independence;<br />

Successful Secession in the Bible and History; and Eyewitness to Successful Secession<br />

Movements. The Cape Independence Handbook is now freely available online. We have seen tremendous growth in the<br />

Cape Independence movement in <strong>2020</strong>, including CapeXit growing from 10,000 members to over 600,000 by the end of<br />

this year. I have conducted meetings to USAF at Dalbarton in Zuidland, spoken at the CapeXit Conference and AGM,<br />

as well as a number of other Cape Independence events. The recent Stellenbosch March for Independence was very<br />

successful with a variety of movements and groups cooperating effectively together. I have had numerous radio and TV<br />

Interviews on this movement for Cape Independence, internationally.<br />

Home Education Fair on Reformation Day<br />

On Reformation Day, Saturday, 31 October, we hosted a Home Education Fair, where home educators set up displays<br />

and tables to sell homemade crafts, food and educational resources. There was also a Reformation Day Celebration<br />

service and a Variety Concert. Prizes were also awarded for the winners of the Reformation Art and Essay Competition<br />

<strong>2020</strong>. This was well supported and a thoroughly enjoyable day with very creative presentations.<br />

Christian Action<br />

This coming February, we will be celebrating 30<br />

years of Africa Christian Action. Africa Christian<br />

Action (ACA) has been organising Life Chains<br />

throughout Southern Africa since 1992. You can<br />

view the most recent Life Chain <strong>2020</strong> video. You can<br />

read the latest Christian Action magazine online. It<br />

includes over 80 pictures, including photo collages<br />

of the March for Life and Women’s Day Missions in<br />

the Mall outreaches in Cape Town. Articles include:<br />

Understanding Psychological Warfare; Responding to<br />

Revolution with Reformation; 1984 Seems Ominously<br />

Relevant Today and 20 Years Ago – African Penguin<br />

Rescue Operation. ACA has also been organising the<br />

Missions in the Malls for 25 years every Women’s<br />

Day. On Monday, 10 August, which was a public<br />

holiday in South Africa, we mobilised 57 volunteers<br />

in 6 teams to conduct outreaches in 8 areas of Cape<br />

Town. Collectively, we distributed over 14,000<br />

Gospel booklets, leaflets, books, New Testaments<br />

and Bibles and had the joy of counselling and<br />

praying with a number of responsive people on the<br />

streets, in shopping malls, parks and in homes. You<br />

can read about these City Wide Outreaches in Cape<br />

Town. “Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim<br />

the Good News of His Salvation from day to day.<br />

Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders<br />

among all peoples.” 1 Chronicles 16:23-24<br />

Upcoming Events<br />

We are looking forward to the new year with many new possibilities and projects in the field, large quantities of Bibles<br />

and books are prepositioned for distribution in Sudan, the Livingstone House building extensions are progressing, the<br />

Biblical Worldview Summit begins next week, then we will be hosting Christian Science Engineer, Philip Stott, followed<br />

by Sanctity Life Sunday and the National Day of Repentance and March for Life. Numerous translations, writing and<br />

printing projects are also nearing completion. For all this we pray for God’s provision, protection and blessing.<br />

Multi-Generational Ministry of Multiplication<br />

It is our duty and destiny to be involved in a ministry of multiplication with a multi-generational vision. We are called<br />

to be strong and faithful as we equip and empower Evangelists to seek first the Kingdom of God, making disciples<br />

of nations, teaching obedience to all things that the Lord has commanded. The Great Commission is our Supreme<br />

Ambition. Christs last Command must be our first concern. “And the things that you have heard from me among many<br />

witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a<br />

good soldier of Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 2:2-3<br />
