Fitting in at a new location isn’t easy, and yet with the
support of Dripstone Middle School Defence Mentor
Kristine Rushforth,Year 7 student Penny Down has
made Darwin feel like home.
After taking art classes at The Artful Room at Nightcliff,
Penny was thrilled to choose Art as an elective in Term
4. When asked to sketch a portrait based on the staff
photo of her favourite teacher, Penny didn’t hesitate to
choose Airlie White, a Defence spouse who has called
Darwin home for the past two years. Penny and Ms
White bonded after discovering that were both in the
same location in a previous posting and Ms White was
thrilled to be drawn by such a talented young artist.
Dripstone Middle School is a Defence family school-ofchoice
located in the Northern Suburbs of Darwin and
aims to nurture students to develop their talents whether
that be art, sport, music, languages or academic success.
Dripstone Middle School provides a dynamic learning

impact exercise.

water bottle and sunscreen... And prepare to
get a little wet!
