Hororata Community Hall. In<br />
conjunction with Nourish and the Two<br />
Rivers Community Trust, learn how to<br />
preserve food in a cost-efficient and safe<br />
way from our local fruit preservationist.<br />
From bottling to dehydrating, you will<br />
learn all the techniques to store your food<br />
through the winter and into the next<br />

Saturday 27 <strong>February</strong>, 1–2pm at Darfield<br />
Community Garden or 14 Regent<br />
Street, Springfield (Edge Connector<br />
Vehicle). Here is your chance to swap<br />
excess seedlings grown from the first<br />
session held on Sat 30 Jan. Through this<br />
mini-workshop you will learn about weed<br />
suppression, soil fertility, and minimising<br />
soil erosion. Join us for a two-part series<br />
focused on seeds. Drop-in/Free.<br />

THE GIANT trotter it<br />
seems has turned into a big<br />
softie.<br />
At over 17 hands Master<br />
Lavros was a fair lump of<br />
a horse that took out two<br />
Dominion Handicaps<br />
on his way to winning<br />
20 times from 53 starts,<br />
amassing $608,007 in<br />
stakes.<br />
Leg problems forced his<br />
retirement from the track in<br />
2017 as an eight-year-old. At<br />
the time his trainer-driver<br />
Mark Jones said: “He will be<br />
extremely well cared for. He<br />
looked after us so good on<br />
the track he deserves to be<br />
looked after off the track.”<br />

Now that place is an<br />
8ha lifestyle block in the<br />
Hakataramea Valley in the<br />
middle of the South Island<br />
and his minder is 17-yearold<br />

and his partner Jane<br />
Campbell.<br />

with a horse one day.”<br />
